Program Notes

Festivity is A-B-A in form, the A sections featuring a syncopated dance rhythm coupled with melody based on the Dorian scale, which must be played with great rhythmic precision and drive. In the B section, both the mode and mood are changed, the basic theme being again presented note-for-note, but in a major key and in a more lush contemporary setting. The repeated A section then leads to a powerful finale, again evoking feelings of dance and revelry.
