Program Notes
Cinderella was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s only musical for television. This 90-minute version of the fairy tale was broadcast live and in color from New York. It was shown three hours later on the West Coast via black and white kinescope recording. It was viewed by an estimated 107 million people, at the time the largest audience ever to watch a single television program. The program aired on March 31, 1957, and included Julie Andrews, Edite Adams, Howard Lindsay, Ilka Chase, Kaye Ballard, and Alice Ghostley in the cast.
