Program Notes

Aloft is my eighth fanfare for band. It was commissioned in 1997 for the 50th Anniversary of the United States Air Force and is dedicated to the men and women of the Air Combat Command (ACC) Heritage of America Band at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, with a special congratulation to James Nierescher (timpanist with the ACC Band) on his retirement.

The work is a combination of my harmonic language with influences from the rhythms of "pop" music. It is high energy and very challenging rhythmically.
