Program Notes

The title of Aileron is a reference to the hinged flaps on the wings of an aircraft, which are used to help it roll and turn. Throught hr use of furious woodwind trills and runs, soaring brass melodies anbd heroic horn calls, this piece is meant to emulate the sensation of taking flight.

Aileron was originally written for horn octet by Dr. James Naigus. After playing the piecer with the UGA (University of Georgia) Horn Choir, I knew that it had to be adapted into a full wind band work. Dr. Naigus has been a major source of support and inspiration, not only for myself, but for every member of the UGA Horn Studio as well. He is an incredible musician and person, and has helped me in tremendous ways throughout my college career. As such, this arrangement of his work is dedicated to him. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Robinson and the UGA Symphonic Band for premiering this work!
