Biography
Bridget Spring was the daughter of Thomas Spring, the wealthy clothier of Lavenham, Suffolk, by his second wife Alice Appleton.[1][2]
Her first marriage was to William Erneley,[1][2] as his second wife, by settlement dated 15 August 1538.[1] Their children were:[1]
- Richard Erneley (?–1577?)
- John Erneley
- Katherine Erneley
- Alice Erneley
William died in January 1546.[1][2]
Bridget remarried on 25 June 1546 to Sir Henry Hussey.[1][2][3] Bridget and Henry did not have children together,[1] and Henry died in August 1557.[1][2][3]
Bridget made her will on 23 September 1557.[1][2] It was proved 2 May 1558.[1][2]
Research notes
Some items to consider/research further:
- 1498: Bridget's supposed birth year in some sources
The will of Bridget's mother Alice's first husband was dated 1512 (see year of second marriage), and Bridget was the daughter of Alice's second husband Thomas, which implies that 1498 is unlikely to be Alice's birth year. Bridget's birth year also deserves questioning because it is after her half-brother Robert Spring was said to have been born to Thomas's first wife Anna (1502).[2]
