Biography
Bridget Spring was born circa 1531 at Hitcham, Suffolk, England, the daughter of Sir John Spring and Dorothy Waldegrave.[1][2][3]
Marriage
She married, firstly, as his second wife, Thomas Fleetwood, Esq., bef.20 June 1556[4][5][1][2]
According to genealogist Thomas Wotton in his 1771 book on the Baronetage of England, Bridget and Thomas' children were:[2]
- Thomas Fleetwood, named as fifth youngest son in the will of father, Thomas Fleetwood, and named in the 1564 will of his grandmother, Dorothy (Waldegrave) Spring
- Francis Fleetwood, named as fourth youngest son in the will of father, Thomas Fleetwood
- George Fleetwood, named as the third youngest son in the will of father, Thomas Fleetwood
- Henry Fleetwood, named as the second youngest son in the will of father, Thomas Fleetwood
- Michael Fleetwood, named as the youngest son in the will of father, Thomas Fleetwood
- Dorothy Fleetwood, named in the 1564 will of Dorothy (Waldegrave) Spring
- Anne Fleetwood m. Ashton Aylworth
- Bridget Fleetwood
- Joyce Fleetwood
Bridget remarried to Sir Robert Wingfield, son of Sir Anthony Wingfield, Comptroller of the King's Household and Elizabeth Vere after the death of Thomas Fleetwood on 1 November 1570.[1][2][6]
Bridget was alive in 1578, when she and husband, Sir Robert Wingfield, sued William Fleetwood and Peter Nelson over trusts set up by her first husband, Thomas Fleetwood.[6] She was dead presumably before 5 June 1584, the date of the will of Sir Robert Wingfield, which does not mention her and makes his son, Anthony Wingfield, his sole executor.[7]
