Biography
Henry(4) Roderick, son of David(3), born in Fayette County, Pa 1 Nov 1816 d. 26 Jul 1905; m. June 1842 Mary Greenlee d. 17 Oct 1900. Both are buried in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda, Wisconsin. Col. Harry Roderick of Evansville, WI. reported this family to me in June, 1993. He shows that they family first lived in Georges, Township, about two miles from Fairchance, Pa. Other Rodericks at the time in Georges County were Daniel, David, Jacob, and another David - all brothers and father of Henry. In the spring of 1862, Henry and Mary Greenlee Rodrick moved to Wisconsin. They traveled by train rather than by the usual covered wagon. On 20 Mar 1862 a letter of dismal was given by the Mount Moriah Baptist Church to Henry, his wife Mary, and sons, Thomas Jefferson, William A Greenlee, and Samuel. The first winter in Wisconsin, 1863, was a severe year for the family as three of the boys, Thomas Charles, and Oliver, died within a month and were buried in the Juda Cemetery. Henry used Roderick rather than Rodrick after moving to Wisconsin. Col. Roderick's family history states that Henry Roderick was a successful farmer, a staunch republican, and a consistent member and deacon of the Baptist Church. It was said in his obituary,"An honorable and upright life has been his. He has fashioned a noble character and will leave behind a name of which posterity may well be proud. He was a total abstainer from the use of intoxicating liquors and tobacco".
