THE ANDREW LINE (Used surname Rotruck, etc.)
THE IIIMIGRANT ANDREW2
Andrew2, born and christened Andreas in Germany in 1730, was six years old when his father and siblings immigrated to Pennsylvania. He probably grew up in the family of his father or a brother, but there is no record and the existence of Andrew was entirely unknown until 1960. As described in Part ONE, records of an Andrew Rothrock in Maryland who could not be accounted for led to an inquiry to the City Archives of Worms that produced the evidence of his birth in 1730, undoubtedly after the 1730 census of Leiselheim was recorded.
As did his brother Ludwig, Andrew ultimately accepted an altered spelling of his surname. His descendants mainly used the name Rotruck; there was also some usage of Rotrock, Rodrick, Rodruck, and Roderick.
Andrew first appears in records in America in a Frederick County, Maryland, registration of a stray horse found 20 January 1755 (Deed Book E). His first known purchase of land was on 19 November 1760, when he paid £29 for 50 acres of "Kindricks Hap" (Book F, p. 1164). He acquired other land not registered in deeds at Frederick, possibly by royal grant, for on 17 March 1762 he and his wife Christina sold a parcel of 70 acres of "Good for Naught" (Book G, p. 431). At the same time he sold the first 50 acres. On 15 May 1768 Andrew Roterock, a farmer of Frederick County, his wife Christina, and his son John leased 200 acres of "Hawkins Merry Peep a Day". He assigned this lease in 1770 to Nicholas Hook (Book N p 32). His last record in Frederick County is a sale of 50 acres of "Leaning Rocks" on 18 Nov 1772 (Book P p 483) forc~42. At that time his wife was Catharine, which can mean that between May 1768 and November 1772 Christina died and Andrew married Catharine.
The Frederick County records give Andrew' s name as Rodtruck, Rodrick, Roderock, Roterock, Roderick, and Rodrock. His signature was written Rothtrock, the same as Ludwig's. One brother would have the name, Rothtrock and another name would be Rotruck. That why it show half brother in these families when they are brothers. Charles W. Harvey--Harvey2679
On 1 May 1787 Andrew Redtruck, a resident of Hampshire County, Virginia, bought 183 acres of land in Hampshire County from Nathaniel Ashby (Book 7, p. 167). That county, now part of West Virginia, was erected in 1753 from parts of two Virginia counties, Frederick and Augusta. Apparently between 1772 and 1787 Andrew settled in the hill country of Hampshire County. On 9 July 1789 he patented 449 acres on Patterson Creek in Hampshire County (Dyer's Index of Virginia Land Grants 3 315).
