Biography
Alfred was born in 1868. Some sources say he was born in Guernsey, the 1911 census return indicates France. He was the son of John William Hughes and Jessie Ann Atkinson Gardner.
He competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was a crew member of the British boat Sorais, which won the bronze medal in the 8 metre class.
He married Margaret Ford in 1909
He passed away in 1935.
