Biography
Barbara was born about 1702[1][2]
- Place: likely Germany, since her parents did not come to America until 1717.
She was the daughter of Daughter of Abraham Kendig Herr and Anna Bar.
- Herr descendant #13
- Barbara Herr was a granddaughter of Hans Herr[3], one of the first Mennonite settlers in Lancaster County in 1710, who was instrumental in convincing his Swiss Brethren to emigrate to its fertile land along the Pequea Creek. Many of the Herr family, including Hans's children and grandchildren, emigrated during the next decade. The Hans Herr House, a stone structure built in 1719 by Rev Christian Herr (brother of Abraham), is still standing and is considered to be the oldest dwelling in Lancaster County. It has been estimated that Hans Herr has more than 15,000 descendants (as of the turn of the 20th century).
Barbara Herr bore four children by her first husband, Henry Miller, whom she married in 1725 in , Chester, , Province of Pennsylvania.[4] Henry Miller first owned land in Conestoga Township, Lancaster County where he was identified as a tailor. Later the family moved to Earl Township, where he died in 1728.
After his death, Barbara remarried to David Martin after 1728 in Springville, Lancaster, Province of Pennsylvania[5], by whom she bore nine more children.[6].
She died on 8 Aug 1742[2][7]in Weaverland, Province of Pennsylvania[1]
- She died on the day her last son, George, was born. Obviously she died of childbirth complications.
Burial
Her burial location is unknown[8]
- possibly in the Weaverland Cemetery, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
Barbara (Miller) (Martin) Herr was born in 1702 the child of Abraham Herr and Ann Baer. She first married Heinrich Mueller or Henry Miller and they had four children together Mary, Susannah, Henry, and Abraham. She then married David Martin and they had nine children together before she passed in 1742 at the age of 40.[9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]
