Biography

  • Cyrus was born October 22, 1883 at Port Huron, Michigan. He died January 17, 1966 in London, and is buried in Woodland Cemetery, London. True to the Edy lack of concern for the spelling of the name he was Christened Eddy. The name was changed back to Edy when Cyrus was in his teens. Cyrus met Florence "Bunty: Adelaide Rowland on May 19, 1904, and were married on June 28, 1910, in London, Ontario. They had tree children: Marjorie Adelaide, Robert Rowland and Donald Leslie Edy. Cyrus was known by his children and grand-children as "Pop".
  • The following information is taken from notes by Jane Edy Hughes. "During this period of time (1901-1906) Pop enjoyed sports such as tennis, football and canoeing. He thought nothing of taking the train and steam ferry to Detroit or Toronto for a weekend. Vacations were spent taking the train to Thedford or Ravensburg, at Ipperwash cottages, or earlier, tenting. And buggy trips to Grand Bend were mentioned as well. Dances at each others homes, canoe trips up the Thames to Springbank and the short trip by rail to Port Stanley filled his leisure hours. He boarded most of the time with his grandfather, William Daniel Edy and spent many evenings visiting with his uncle Les (Eli Leslie).
  • "He worked at Southam Printing and the London Advertiser, which both gave him glowing testimony as an artist. 'He was a reporter and cartoonist for the Free Press. He drew under the pen name of Peck. Cyrus then left the newspaper business and joined Somerville Industries Ltd. as a commercial artist. He retired in 1965 as the company's sales manager.
  • "Pop and Bunty lived at 306 Oxford for 42 years and then built a house on the hill overlooking the corner of Commissioners Road and Springbank Drive in 1953, where we, the grandchildren, had a wonderful time playing in the woods. After that they moved to 383 Cedar Ave." (Source: Jane (Edy) Hughes and the book "Climbing Down the Eddye-Eddy-Edy Family Tree", by Eric Johnstone, 2009-10
