Rebecca K. Cummings “Becky”, went peacefully home to be with her Savior early in the morning, on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Becky was born in the hamlet of Rapids on March 29, 1954, to the late David and Gloria Chaffee.

She always dreamed of being a teacher, and she taught for a number of years after college. Throughout the years, she enjoyed being outside, reading books, riding her bicycle, spending time with family, and being involved at church. In 1999, she married Dale Cummings, and they adopted their daughter Laura from China in 2004. Becky was a loving, devoted wife and a wise, dedicated mother.

Through all of her life, Becky exemplified faithfulness. She was faithful in caring for her family and in diligently doing the mundane tasks of everyday homemaking. She was faithful in being a caring friend who gave her listening ear and thoughtful, encouraging cards to others. Most of all, she was faithful to her Lord, living each day to please Him. Many who know Becky remember how faithfully she read the Scriptures and prayed for others throughout her life. As a small child, Becky chose to place her trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that she could have a relationship with God—a relationship not earned by anything good that she had done, but freely given because Jesus died and rose again to save sinners. 

She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Joshua) Koole; stepsons Douglas (Monica) Cummings, and Steven (Patricia) Cummings; grandchildren, Morgan (Tarquin) Cummings-Gerstner, Leah Cummings, and Brandon Cummings; great-grandson, Grayson Gerstner; siblings Beth Nichter, and Russell (Brenda) Chaffee. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband Dale Cummings, who passed away in October of 2025.

Diane Perkins, 66, formerly of Pulaski and Oswego, passed away on August 20, 2026, at Premier Genesee Nursing Home.

She was born on February 6, 1960, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Herbert Perkins and Betsy (Ross) Voorhees. She is survived by the love of her life, Mike Patchen, and her son, Duane Briggs, and siblings, Debra Brunner and Mark Perkins.

Bernard Eugene Pangrazio Sr., 85, passed away on July 11, 2026, at Gateway Home, Attica.

Bernard was born August 23, 1940, in Batavia, New York, the son of the Late Laverne Sr. and Anita (Stewart) Pangrazio. He married the love of his life, Joan Galliford, on April 19, 1958.

Bernard found great satisfaction in farming, construction, scrapping, and operating his heavy equipment. A hardworking man who was happiest staying busy, working for 30+ years at Keeler Constructions, Albion, driving dump trucks, he took pride in every project he undertook. Above all else, Bernard cherished his family. They were the center of his life, and his greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan Pangrazio; children, Cheryl Lynn (L. Larry) Richenberg, Robin Lee (John) Volk, Bernard "Bernie" (Carol) Pangrazio Jr., and Scott "Scooter" (Gail) Pangrazio; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Marg) Pangrazio, John (L. Patricia) Pangrazio, Larry (Chris) Pangrazio, Gary (Sandy) Pangrazio, Keith (Brenda) Pangrazio, and Alvin (Nancy) Pangrazio; sisters, Charlene (L. Jim) Worthington and June Boldt; many nieces and nephews.

Bernard's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

In death Bernard will be reunited with his parents, Laverne Sr. and Anita Pangrazio; siblings, Beverly (Tom) Brown, Laverne Pangrazio Jr.; Calvin Pangrazio, and Terry Pangrazio.

Sandra Jane O'Connor, (Currier, formerly Wyder), 77, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, following a brief illness at Fiddler's Home Nursing Home in Springville, where she had resided since 2020.

Born on August 13, 1949, in Batavia, New York, Sandra was raised in Oakfield and attended Oakfield schools. She was the daughter of the late Betty and Archie Currier. Sandra was predeceased by her loving husband, Mark O'Connor, of Clarence, with whom she shared 20 wonderful years of marriage.

Sandra had a remarkable and dedicated work ethic. Notably, she was among the small percentage of individuals living with schizophrenia who successfully maintained a full career throughout her entire life-an incredible achievement that filled her loving family, especially her daughter Lisa, with immense pride. Professionally, she served as the sole printer for both Genesee Memorial Hospital and St. Jerome's Hospital in Batavia. After moving to Florida for a time with her husband Mark, she worked in customer service for Walmart. Upon returning to New York, she continued her dedicated service at Walmart until her retirement, after which she resided at the Cloisters in Akron.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Archie Currier, and her beloved daughter, Christine Wyder.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Way and Lisa's children, Aaron Way, Rachel Otzelberger (Way)​, Katherine Clemm (Way) and her husband, Jeffrey Clemm, along with their children, Allyson Brennan, Olivia, and Dylan; children of her late daughter Christine, Melissa Piazza, Nathan Piazza, Shannon Cervone, and Sean Cervone; brothers,Cliff Currier (wife Leslie) and Gerald Currier (wife Mary Ann) and numerous surviving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carmela A. Ilacqua, 91 of Batavia, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday (August 19, 2026) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 29, 1935 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Trinchera Colantonio.

Carmela was employed by The Batavia Daily News for over 25 years prior to her retirement. She filled her home with love, laughter and the gentle purrs of her beloved feline companions

She is survived by her two daughters, Angela (Phil) Heiman and Maria (Jim) McAndrew. Son, Anthony (Amy) Ilacqua. Grandchildren, Caroline, Scott, Brian, Eric, Michael, Anthony, Jordan and Brenna. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Anthony Ilacqua; Grandson, Kevin Heiman and her sister Frances Marcello.

Gregory A. Johns, 66 of Oakfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born in Batavia, October 22, 1959 to the late Lester and Shirley (Walter) Johns. 

He was a hard worker with a big heart — one of the toughest men out there. He cared deeply about people and genuinely enjoyed teaching others the things he knew. He had a natural ability to talk to anyone, make connections, and leave an impression on the people he met.

Music was a huge part of who he was. It brought him happiness throughout his life and is something so many people will always associate with him — especially his grandkids.

But more than anything, family meant everything to him. He loved his girls deeply. He taught us to be strong, independent, to figure things out for ourselves, and to never be afraid to take on something difficult. Because of him, we grew up believing we could handle whatever life put in front of us — and that strength and confidence is something he gave us that we will carry forever.

As much as being a father meant to him, though, there was one title that may have meant even more — Grandpa Peaches. 

His grandchildren held an incredibly special place in his heart. He loved kids, he loved his family, and underneath everything was a man with an enormous heart who cared deeply for the people he loved.

He will be remembered for his love of music, his conversations, the things he taught us, his incredible work ethic, his caring heart, and above all, the love he had for his family. Those are the pieces of him that will stay with us forever.

Greg is survived by his daughters, Tanya Thyret of Oakfield, Jessica (Rick Galluzzo) Johns of Buffalo, Andrea (Mike Hadick) Capwell of Attica, Traci (Aaron) Pierce of Henrietta, 7 grandchildren, Tracy, Joshua, Micah, Levi, Dominick, Stella and Jordyn; siblings, Linda (Butch) Smith, Betty (Lyle) Starkweather, Jim (Susan) Brion, Barbara Brion, Bobby Brion and Leslie (Rick) Stauss, along with many nieces and nephews.

Wendy Sue Fustino, 73, passed away peacefully at the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center in Greece, New York.

Wendy was born and raised in Williamsville, New York, the daughter of the late Henry and Betty (Tiedeman) Schoelles.

Wendy is survived by her husband, Bruce Fustino, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family and filled with love, laughter, lifelong friendships, and countless memories.

She is also survived by her children, Sean (Gina) Fustino and Angela (Frank) Gioia, and her three cherished grandchildren, Bryce Reigle, Mackenzie Reigle, and Ty Gioia. She found great joy in watching them play basketball and cheering them on from the sidelines, fondly known as “Grandparents’ Row.”

Wendy is also survived by her siblings, Linda (Garry) Brown of Albany and David (Tizzy) Schoelles of Florida, along with her beloved nieces and nephews, Lori (Steve), Tami, Scott (Coreen), and Emily (Jim).

Wendy dedicated 22 years of her career to the Genesee County Office for the Aging, where she played an instrumental role in the implementation and success of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and later served as transportation coordinator. Her commitment to helping elders extended beyond her professional life through her volunteer work with the American Red Cross and Crossroads House, where she offered compassion and comfort to those in need.

Wendy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a true passion for gardening and proudly earned her Master Gardener recognition through Cornell Cooperative Extension. She also loved the Buffalo Bills and McDonald’s Diet Coke.

Above all, Wendy will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her beautiful smile, contagious laughter, and loving presence brought joy to so many, and her memory will be treasured always.

A graveside service, open to family and friends, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Western New York National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, New York, 14036. Due to cemetery regulations, flowers are respectfully declined.

Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating Wendy’s life and share memories together at 3:00 p.m. at the Batavia Country Club.

A Life of Love, Strength, and Lasting Light: Remembering Stacey L. Arnold

Stacey L. Arnold of Oakfield, 55, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, Greece NY after a courageous fight with cancer

Stacey was born January 6, 1971, in Batavia, NY. She is the daughter of Henry and Mary Lu (Smith) Stachowski of Oakfield. Stacey is survived by her husband, Jeff Arnold. Her son Dylan (Stephanie) Mackey, daughter Peyton Mackey DVM, Stepson's Cody (Caitlin, fiancé) Arnold and Casey (Leah) Arnold with granddaughter Ellie Arnold. Her brother Henry (Merry) Stachowski of Batavia. Nephew Joseph Stachowski and Niece Ashley Stachowski. Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Stacey graduated from Oakfield-Alabama High School in 1989, where she participated in soccer, softball, and cheerleading. She later studied fashion and merchandising at Genesee Community College and continued playing soccer.

Stacey worked at JCPenney in Batavia for more than 20 years, managing many areas of the store. She cherished her time there and remained close with many of her colleagues. After the Batavia store closed, she joined Deep Blue Pool and Spa, where she enjoyed serving customers and formed close bonds with her coworkers.

An avid photographer, Stacey loved capturing the beauty of nature. She also photographed senior portraits, families, weddings, and engagements.

Her love of animals was especially evident in the care she gave to the birds that visited her feeders, particularly the hummingbirds. Stacey and her husband, Jeff, also enjoyed visiting the Adirondack Mountains and spending full days riding the trails.

Stacey never gave up. Through every challenge, difficult day, and obstacle, she fought tirelessly with a strength that inspired everyone who knew her. She continued to smile and laugh, always finding reasons to look toward tomorrow with hope. Her positivity was a gift to others. Stacey loved her family and closest friends fiercely and remained deeply loyal to them. Her children were her absolute pride and joy.

Richard "Dick" Borycki, 83, of Attica, passed away on August 16, 2026, at the NYS Veterans Home at Batavia, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 30, 1943, in North Tonawanda, a son of the late John E. and Martha (Bross) Borycki.

He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church Attica, and the Marine Corp League. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1966 and saw combat in Vietnam, 1965-1966. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Susan Michel, on January 21, 1967. Dick supported his family throughout his career as a fiber optic technician with AT&T until his retirement. Retirement, however, did not slow him down, as he went on to work as an electrician at Darien Lake simply because he enjoyed staying busy.

Not only was Dick a talented electrician, but he was also a true handyman who could build, repair, and repurpose just about anything. He built his home and barns with his own two hands. He always enjoyed working on his property and was never afraid to take on a new project. One of Dick's most famous sayings was, "What are friends for if not to use them?"-and he certainly lived by those words. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to a friend and never hesitated to be there when someone needed him. Dick enjoyed the stories and memories found in old country music and had a deep passion for studying God's Word. He led Bible studies and served as a Youth Leader when he saw the need. He was known for his knowledge and insightful understanding of Scripture. Above all, Dick loved Jesus and cherished his family, which remained at the heart of his life.

Richard is survived by his children, John (Renia) Borycki, Joshua Borycki, and Glenn (Mary) Levendusky; grandchildren, Elee Borycki, Joshua Jr. (Cam) Borycki, Morgan Borycki, Joseph Borycki, Richard Levendusky, Jacob Levendusky, Luke Levendusky, and many others that call him grandpa; nieces, Beth Arnold, Amy Wolcot, and Libby Evans; siblings, John (Gail) Borycki, Christine Borycki, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service for Richard on August 25, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Graceful Gatherings at LedgeRock. 2300 Gassman Road Varysburg, NY, 14167. Richard will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery. Immediately following Richard's interment there will be a reception at Graceful Gatherings at LedgeRock.

Pavilion ~ Joyce Phillips Herold, age 92, of Pavilion Center Road, crossed over peacefully on August 15, 2026.

     She was born on October 20, 1933 in Covington, a daughter of the late Harold and Eva Snider Phillips.   

  Joyce will be remembered as the loving matriarch of her family.  She loved life to the fullest and those that became a part of her life.  She was a devoted “farmer’s wife” and enjoyed travelling with her husband on his truck routes.  Joyce babysat for many children over the years and became a loving “grandmother” to many. 

     She will be sadly missed by her children, Marie (Mike) Stalica, Deborah Herold, Thomas (Kim) Herold and Michael Herold; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nephew, Daniel Nichols; brother-in-law, Raymond Herold, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Richard “Dick” Herold; daughter, Nancy Herold Ross; great-granddaughter, Arianna Steen; sister, Evelyn Phillips Nichols; in-laws, Donald (Whitey) Nichols, Kenneth & Rita Herold Faas, Sue Herold, Mary Herold and Harriet Herold.

     Family and friends may call on Saturday, August 22 from 11 AM ~ 2 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy, where her prayer service will be held at 2:00 PM.  Interment will immediately follow at the Pavilion Cemetery.  A Celebration of Joyce’s life will follow her services and burial at the LeRoy American Legion, 53 West Main Street.

May 16, 1952 – August 13, 2026

David Gene Merritt of Stafford, New York, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 74.

    David will be deeply missed by his longtime partner of 37 years, Bonnie Perry.

    He leaves behind his children, Nathan (Shawna) Merritt, Gina (Jason) Palmer and Tanya (Frank) Deel. He was a proud grandfather to Gaven, Sophia, Azalea, Ryker, Abigail, Collin, Gabriella, and Willow. He is also survived by his mother, Alytha Knapp; and his siblings, Barbara Knapp, Patricia Knapp, and Jonathan Knapp.  

  One of David’s greatest passions in life was cars. Whether he was working on one, talking about one, admiring one, or simply taking a drive, cars were always close to his heart. He could spot a special car from a mile away and was always happy to share his knowledge, opinions, and stories—whether you asked for them or not. His love of cars was more than a hobby; it was a part of who he was.

    Above all, David will be remembered for the love he had for his family, the laughter he shared, and the countless memories he created with those around him. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the people who loved him and the stories they will carry with them.

    Though he may no longer be here to take us for a ride, his spirit will live on in every story we tell, every laugh we share, and every beautiful car that catches our eye.

    David will be loved, remembered, and missed always.

Harriett J. Klotzbach, 97, of Basom passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, while under hospice care at UMMC in Batavia. Harriett was born on March 6, 1929, in Akron, NY to Harry and Irene Dunn. Her family owned Sherwood Hardware on Main Street in Akron, where she grew up in a close-knit community.

She graduated from Akron High School in 1946, where she participated in sports and theater. Her classmates affectionately called her "Gus", a nickname that reflected her fun-loving spirit and personality. Anyone who knew Harriett knew her strong spirit, love of life, and sense of adventure. She was the queen of the family and the life of every gathering. Harriett was a well-known local artist whose paintings earned numerous awards. She found great joy in painting and sharing her talent with others.

She was also known for her homemade pies. No family gathering or celebration was complete without one of Harriett's pies. Harriett loved gardening, flowers, antiques, crafts, crossword puzzles, and traveling. She and her best friend, Rebecca Blew, could often be found shopping for antiques, crafts, and flowers for their gardens.

Harriett met the love of her life, Donald Klotzbach, at a dance. They were married on December 8, 1948, and shared a love of dancing that lasted more than 70 years. Together they traveled throughout the United States with friends to round dance. After Donald's passing on December 28, 2018, Harriett contiued her passion for travel, enjoying trips to foreign lands with her grandson, Chad.

Harriett was known for her larger than life jewelry, big purses, and even bigger personality. She brought laughter and energy wherever she went and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Akron and enjoyed sharing her gift of hospitality, hosting teas for the women of the church.

Harriett is now reunited with her beloved husband, her parents Harry and Irene, Don's parents Jacob and Helen Klotzbach, and her siblings Annette, Margery, and Dorothy. Harriett is survived by her sons, Blair (Molly Call) Klotzbach of Beverly Hills, FL and Drew (Dianne) Klotzbach of Bason, NY,; three grandchildren, Matthew (Liesja) Klotzbach of Parker, CO, Chad Klotzbach and Morgan (Craig) Wagner of Basom, NY. One of her greates joys was recently becoming the proud great-grandmother of Vera Rose Wagner.

LeRoy ~ Daniel J. Wolfe, age 52, of East Main Street, passed away Wednesday afternoon (August 12, 2026) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

     He was born November 25, 1973 in Medina, a son of Daniel Wolfe and the late Linda Boyd Cole.   

  Daniel will be remembered for his love of his children and spending time with them riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers.  He also enjoyed swimming in the creek with his son.

     He will be sadly missed by his wife of 15 years, Jennifer Hageman; his son, McKinley; daughter, Kylie; father, Daniel; sister, Amy Showler (Steve Morales); brothers, John Hertz, Robert Scott, Jake Scott and Ian Scott; nieces Kaitlyn, Jaime, Megan and Maysie; mother-in-law, MaryJo Nicholls; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Tricia (T J) Zastrocky and Rachel Nicholls; close friend, Richard Hammer; his fur baby, Luna, along with many aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews.

     In addition to his mother, Linda, Daniel was predeceased by his daughter, Haley, his paternal father, Bob Scott and sister, Hannah Wolfe.

     Family and friends may call on Saturday, August 29 from 1 ~ 3 PM at the Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship, 5329 S. Gravel Road, Medina, N.Y., where his memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM.  A reception will immediately follow the service in the church hall.

     In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family to establish an education fund on behalf of McKinley.

After a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Nora (Jane) Shanley Scofield passed away at her home on Sunday, August 9, 2026 under hospice care at the age of 86.

Nora resided in Batavia and Le Roy, New York before relocating to Venice, Florida. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength and generosity. Along with those beautiful blue eyes.

Nora is survived by her devoted partner John Clarke Britnell, her children Shari (William) Sheron, Jeffery White, Benjamin Scofield, and Jennie Scofield McMullen; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husbands Gordon White and John Scofield. 

In accordance with Nora’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the family’s convenience. Nora will be laid to rest at Venice Memorial Gardens, Venice, Florida.

Carol Ann Merkle, 81, of Attica, passed away on August 9, 2026, at Buffalo General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family..

She was born on September 1, 1944, in Warsaw, a daughter of the late Paul and Bertha (George) Almeter.

Carol married the love of her life, William C. Merkle, on May 2, 1964, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Carol devoted herself to her family, making their house a loving home for their four children and caring for them every step of the way as they grew. Later in life, she began a career as a cashier at Walmart, where she worked until her retirement. Above all, Carol will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and the home she created for them.

Carol was a lifelong member of the St. John Neumann family of Catholic Churches. She found joy in sewing, quilting, baking, and cooking, but her greatest happiness came from preparing and sharing family dinners. She cherished the time spent gathering her loved ones around the table and creating special memories together.

Carol is survived by her children, Todd Merkle, Paula (L. Joseph) Orlowski, Kristie (James) Rohauer, and Denise Scimia; grandchildren Ashley (Dillon) Eaton, Collin (Eva) Merkle, Conner (Grace) Merkle, Joseph (Angelyn) Orlowski, Nathan (Shelby) Orlowski, Ryan Orlowski, Dominic Scimia, and Gia Scimia; great grandson, Abel Orlowski; brothers, Mike (Elaine) Almeter, and PJ (Jeanie) Almeter; close friend, Jim Foley, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In death, Carol is reunited with her loving husband, William Merkle; parents, Paul and Bertha Almeter, and sister, Mary Almeter.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street, Attica, New York 14011. Carol's funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11:00 am, at St. Cecilia (St. John Neumann), 991 Centerline Rd. Sheldon, New York 14145. Carol will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery, next to her husband, immediately following the funeral mass.
