Processing the ghost of a former partner, writer and director Scott D. Keenan captures the resonance of romantic grief through movement for the short film Chambers Street. Choreographed by movement artist Max Cookward, and featuring dancers Jacob Thoman and Louisa Fernando, the film centers the quiet gestures that carry the memory of former lovers – between the way you stack the dishwasher, the cereal you eat, or how you brush your teeth.

Moving from the intimate confines of their apartment to the streets of New York, tension builds across daily routines, culminating in a final moment of release that takes hold on the subway platform. Against a performance by cellist Coleman Itzcoff, the film’s emotional climax observes the emptiness attached to love and loss through the lens of mourning – as a feeling to be overcome, exorcized, and ultimately set free.
