Named for Mr. Joe Marty (1945- ), American medical technologist, mineral collector/micromounter, and member of the micromounters hall of fame, in recognition for his contributions to mineralogy. Joe has discovered (or contributed to the discovery of) dozens of new minerals, including martyite.
