(m. 39 a.s.l.) This mine is known since the Iron Age because its limonite is Mn-rich and so it was possible to obtain an Mn-steel more than 2500 years ago!
Cape Bianco is situated at the north end of Barbarossa beach, 1 km NE of the Spanish fortress of Porto Azzurro.
Modern exploitation started in 1880 and ended in 1940 (exhausted).
The orebody was limonite and hematite.
