Powering the Transition: From Efficiency Gains to Green Transformation
Shanghai Electric has always positioned itself as a vital partner in advancing the energy security strategy, therefore the company has made decisive progress in both traditional and renewable energy.
In 2024, the Energy Equipment division delivered a 59%+ year-on-year revenue increase, reaffirming its role as the backbone of the Group's performance. Anchored in the goals of the 14th Five-Year Plan, Shanghai Electric is delivering a dual excellence solution—upgrading traditional energy while accelerating the deployment of new energy systems.
Technology Innovation for Balanced Transition
Shanghai Electric is making traditional energy cleaner and more efficient, ensuring a smooth and stable transition to a low-carbon future:
At Huaneng Ruijin Power Plant, the world's first million-kilowatt ultra-supercritical turbine featuring double reheat, dual regenerative heating achieved the lowest coal consumption rate globally.
The self-developed 300 MW F-class heavy-duty gas turbine, ignited successfully in 2024, marked the first 100% house-developed large-scale turbine—breaking new ground in alloys, blades, and manufacturing processes, while strengthening industrial self-reliance.
These breakthroughs embody Shanghai Electric's ESG principle of driving decarbonization through technological leadership, directly reducing emissions while building resilient energy infrastructure.
Accelerating New Energy Systems
With its manufacturing strength, Shanghai Electric is rapidly scaling an integrated clean energy value chain.
In just two years, the company has introduced flagship products across hydrogen production, storage, fueling, and application.

In July 2025, the Taonan Green Methanol Project came online—the first project integrating green hydrogen with biomass gasification, and the first certified by the EU ISCC standard. Once fully operational, it will reach one million tons of green methanol annually, setting a benchmark for green fuel innovation.
At the same time, Shanghai Electric is leading in heterojunction (HJT) solar innovation, with the world's first gigawatt-scale automated production line. Its high-efficiency cells achieve up to 640W peak power and over 85% bifaciality, enabling customers to capture more value from every ray of sunlight.
Smart Energy for Net-Zero
Beyond technology, Shanghai Electric is building smart energy management platforms that optimize generation, grid, storage, and consumption across large-scale renewable bases and industrial parks. This directly supports the construction of new power systems and advances zero-carbon transition.
Decades of R&D in hydrogen blending combustion, automation, and intelligent controls have also borne fruit: Shanghai Electric successfully validated a 7% hydrogen co-firing rate in a large F-class gas turbine—proof that fossil-to-hydrogen transition pathways are within reach.
With all these achievements, Shanghai Electric's ESG commitments—carbon peak by 2030, neutrality by 2035 (operations), and full value-chain neutrality by 2055—are deeply embedded in its energy strategy. Whether in hydrogen blending for gas turbines, automated controls for low-emission combustion, or renewable integration, every innovation reflects a commitment to both economic security and environmental responsibility.
"Empowering global industry, making life smarter—and greener."
On this new journey, the 40,000 employees of Shanghai Electric are committed to carrying forward this mission: to build a future where industrial strength and the world's sustainability goals converge.
