Celebrating Olympic-scale regen

Citius, Altius, Fortius! - this week sees a major anniversary for London! As the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games cheers the nation’s hearts from the Midlands, and the pride of the English Lionesses top the Euro 2022 football tournament, we also celebrate a moment of history that is close to the hearts of everyone here at Innesco – that’s the 10th Anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was a truly remarkable time, and the ultimate alliance for Europe’s largest retail development - our client Westfield Stratford City next door, open since the September before.

The Innesco team developed and delivered the B2B communications strategy for the Westfield Stratford City project for five years throughout the construction, pre-let, launch, and ultimately the Olympic Games – making some extraordinary memories along the way, helping to promote and showcase what Property Week described at the time as ‘the world’s strongest real estate brand'. It was a game changer in more ways than one.

This iconic sporting moment supercharged redevelopment projects not just across Stratford, Newham and London but across the country - firing up a legacy seldom seen in Olympic cities around the world, and one to be proud of. We continue with the Legacy at Olympic Park today – supporting Get Living and its innovative #BTR neighbourhoods.

Under a groundswell of passion for everything East London, seeing the ‘Where East meets Westfield’ slogan emblazoned on the city’s red buses, the gold-rush of Super Saturday, and recalling the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Frank Lowy the year before, we can tangibly see how real estate investments are the catalysts for economic change; Westfield Stratford City delivered one of if not the, largest #Section106 packages the UK has ever seen. It’s great to see many editorial leaders acknowledging this, and not least pushing the Government’s Levelling Up agenda today!
