Building Emergency Response Skills: SRM NCC Marks World Health Day 2025 with First-Aid Session
On the occasion of World Health Day 2025, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST-KTR) organised a focused guest lecture on “Medical First-Aid” at the SRM College of Agricultural Sciences .
The session was delivered by Dr. G. Prathishta, M.B.B.S., Doctor in Residence, who shared practical knowledge on responding to medical emergencies. She was welcomed and honoured with a memento by Dr. Jawaharlal M, Dean, SRM College of Agricultural Sciences.
The programme began with a welcome address from Prof. Dr. T.S. Raja Rajeshwaran, NCC Caretaker Officer, who introduced the objective of the session and emphasised the importance of first-aid awareness among students.
A key part of the session was a live demonstration on seizure management and CPR techniques, giving students a clear understanding of the steps involved in emergency response.
Dr. Prathishta addressed a wide range of first-aid topics, focusing on the identification, prevention, and basic management of common medical emergencies. These included burns, electrical shocks, fractures, snake bites, poisoning, heat strokes, airway obstructions, seizures, and heart attacks. Her explanations were aimed at helping students understand both the causes and the immediate steps to take during such incidents.
This initiative by the SRM NCC aimed to equip cadets and students with the skills to act effectively and calmly during medical situations. It also aligned with the larger goal of promoting health awareness and responsibility within the student community.
