Shomrim Toronto told JNS that the possibility that the girl’s disappearance is related to targeting of the Jewish community is “not something of concern at the moment.”
“You can’t fight back something you don’t really understand,” Amir Epstein, director of Tafsik, one of the organizers, told JNS. “You can’t fight back something you don’t know.”
“The data shows that Jewish, black and 2SLGBTQI+ communities remain most impacted, year after year,” stated Myron Demkiw, chief of the Toronto Police Service.
The Muslim Association of Britain director was detained and deported after officials questioned him for hours in Montreal.
“No Jewish community in this country has been left unscathed over the past several years,” said B’nai Brith Canada’s CEO.
“The accused was identified as a result of tips received from the public,” police said.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry says Jews, under 1% of Canada’s population, suffer about 70% of religious hate crimes in the country, citing 6,800 incidents in 2025.
The statement followed a pellet gun shooting targeting worshipers outside a synagogue in Toronto.
Antisemitic attacks against Canadians total about 20 per day, Ambassador Iddo Moed said.
“This is not a prank. It was an act of intimidation meant to spread fear,” Vince Gasparro, a Liberal parliamentarian, told JNS.
The suspect, who was 17 at the time of the offense, is due in court on May 20.
“This investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offense,” the Toronto Police Service stated.
