The measurement methodology of peritoneal serous applied in our previous paper (Albanese et al.) in non-eviscerated cadavers, allowed us to know for first time, the total extension of the
peritoneum in situ.
The open (Hasson) technique consists of an initial incision into the
peritoneum allowing direct visualization of the insertion of a blunt trocar, before gas insufflation and laparo-scope introduction4.
(8) It is assumed that fragments of the uterus or myoma can be implanted into
peritoneum with subsequent dissemination in women susceptible to hormonal imbalance against the backdrop of hyperestrogenism.
The appearance of a loose areolar tissue below the level of the promontory confirms the correct plane between the visceral
peritoneum and the pelvic fascia.
Because of the high prevalence of relapse, it adds credence to the theory that the
peritoneum - the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and surrounds the internal organs -- provides cancer cells with a refuge in which they are protected from the chemotherapy drugs.
On computed tomography,4 findings showed statistical significance: Smooth thickening of the
peritoneum (p<0.001), abdominal mass (p=0.03), lymph node necrosis (p=0.024) and high-density ascitic fluid (p<0.001).
The multi-centre, non-randomised, open label, dose-escalation Phase I clinical trial will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of intraperitoneal infusions of MCY-M11 in individuals with platinum-resistant high-grade serous adenocarcinoma of the ovary, primary
peritoneum or fallopian tube, or individuals with advanced peritoneal mesothelioma with recurrence after prior chemotherapy.
Background: Pelvic floor
peritoneum reconstruction is a key step in various standard resections for open radical rectal cancer.
The surgical approach of lower segment cesarean section has traditionally included closure of the visceral and the parietal
peritoneum. The suggested advantages of closure of the
peritoneum include restoring the normal anatomy and reapproximating the tissues, reducing the incidence of infection by reestablishing the natural anatomical barrier, reducing wound dehiscence, reducing hemorrhage, and minimizing the incidence of adhesion formation [1-3].
Fatal gastrointestinal and peritoneal ischemic disease (FGPID) is a pathology which describes ischemic changes to intraperitoneal organs including bowel,
peritoneum, omentum, gallbladder, mesentery, and mesenteric lymph nodes.
An endometriotic lesion occurs frequently in the ovary, pelvic
peritoneum, and Douglas pouch but rarely at other sites.
The prevailing theory considers this tumor as the result of a persistent inflammatory process involving the
peritoneum [3].
Common locations are the uterine wall, the fallopian tubes, the ovaries and the pelvic
peritoneum. [3-5] Pelvic endometriosis presents clinically with a triad of symptoms: pain (chronic pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea), menorrhagia and infertility.
