Evan Watson (username Watson.E)[1] is a scientist in the Institute in Fallout 4.
Background[edit]
Evan Watson is a member of the Advanced Systems division, working on it's Laser Weapons project, recently having modified their frequency.[2] Dr. Li also put him in charge of testing the child synth Shaun, despite his misgivings about the project.[3] He is also responsible for power distribution within the Facilities Division.[4]
Dr. Watson believes very strongly in the importance of safety rules and regulations, and that failure to follow them will end horribly.[5][6][7] Several years ago he had a safety handbook spanning several thousand pages made, which he believes is a short read.[8] Recently he has recommended the Directorate review sidearm regulations and firearms training for Institute personnel due to conflict with SRB regulations, review inter-departmental computer access due to abuse by the SRB, and a full security review of the Institute alongside Dr. Ayo, due to recent security threats.[9]
Dr. Watson spends much of his time reviewing and denying project applications from Rosalind Orman,[10] having denied 12 recently,[11] including one for modifying the Molecular Relay to shrink people as it was pure science fiction,[12] he objects to a proposed plasma pistol upgrade for being too radical,[13] and objects to a redesign to the teleporter for insufficient safety protocols.[14] He also disapproves of Brendan Volkert's attempts to see Dr. Orman, viewing them as unnecessary distractions.[15]
Dr. Watson objects to calls for further power cuts by Dr. Li on behalf of Dr. Thompson, noting they are operating within parameters.[16] He distrusts Dr. Li due to her being an outsider. However, he is a close friend of Father, holding long dinner conversations with him weekly.[17]
Dr. Watson believes that while the Brotherhood of Steel is a threat, they have impressive technology, and studies their technical blueprints.[18] He wishes for the opportunity to study a Vertibird.[19]

Notes[edit]
- If the Sole Survivor convinces Madison Li to join the Brotherhood of Steel, Evan Watson will replace her as head of the Advanced Systems Division. He then takes her place at Institute Directorate meetings and her involvement in Airship Down.
- If the Sole Survivor completes Mass Fusion for the Institute and finishes the Phase 3 Reactor, he will start preparing new safety procedures for the new reactor.
- If the Sole Survivor completes Nuclear Family, he will suggest they meet sometime to discuss new safety policy updates.
