How to get Gold in Subnautica 2
Where to find Gold on Proteus.
Gold in Subnautica 2 is one of many ores you'll ultimately need for fabricating new tools and items for your base, and fortunately, it's found in abundance once you know exactly where to look (and have enough heat protection to tolerate the biome it's located in).
To help you with tracking this resource down, here's how to get Gold in Subnautica 2.
How to get Gold in Subnautica 2
I was able to find Gold across Subnautica 2's hot biome, the Graveyard, which you'll be directed to by NoA when they task you with investigating the Tadpole Pens. Prior to this, you should have also unlocked the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, otherwise you're not going to be able to reach Gold without the heat in the area getting to your health bar first.
In the hot biome known as the Graveyard (and the Hot Cave that lies beneath it), you can find Gold deposits which are similar in appearance to Cage Gorgons but gold-coloured. These Gold deposits are, more often than not, underground, but you don't necessarily need to always enter the huge Hot Cave to get it. I was able to find Gold deposits in some smaller caves and on the surface in the hot biome too in my experience.
I was also able to find Gold deposits in abundance scattered along the huge coral tower, or at least I think that's what the area is. This location features the large tower constructed of both rock and salvaged materials in the hot biome (pictured below), but be careful here, as plenty of hostile fish also frequent this area.
To find Gold with ease though, I highly recommend building a Scanner Station inside your base as soon as you're able to. This device will be able to track and mark all resources within a 300 meter radius of your base, making farming specific resources – like Gold – much easier.
To use the Scanner Station to find Gold, simply interact with it and select Gold from the list of resources shown (Gold is the golden hard coral-looking deposit). This then brings up a 3D map on the Scanner Station with orbs showing where Gold can be found.
Select one and a marker for that particular Gold deposit will be added to your HUD. Now all you need to do is swim on over to that marker and collect Gold! Though, bear in mind that some larger deposits require the Sonic Resonator to break.
Additionally, if Gold doesn't show up in the resources listed by your Scanner Station, then that means there's no Gold within a 300 meter radius of your base. You'll then want to try swimming 300 meters in a different direction (ideally towards the hot biome), then go about building a new base and Scanner Station there and searching for Gold again.
