Joyce: So are the cops randomly searching other residence halls now for Amazi-Girl? Dorothy: Wright Quad is across the street from the main library, where Amazi-Girl's been seen before. Joyce: Are they just gonna keep terrorizing everybody day by day, dorm by dorm, until they find her? Dorothy: Well, they're certainly not going to find her for a while. She's not about to resurface in the condition she's in. Joyce: So students will keep getting their sense of safety violated, indefinitely. Dorothy: ...we'll see what happens at noon today.

The About/Read Before Posting page has gotten a makeover! It includes clearer commenting guidelines, hopefully, and a contact form for if you want your comment undeleted. We're gonna try being less punitive about deletions in general, is the broad strokes, but I still highly recommend you go read it top to bottom.

Please do not debate the merits of this new page in the comic comments. Thanks.

  1. maybe it will happen today

  2. What is supposed to happen at noon? Did I miss something?

      .
as discussed in yesterday’s comic, police raided read hall at noon the day before yesterday in universe, and another residence hall yesterday in universe, setting up a pattern whereby it appears a third resident hall will get raided today. the police are doing this with the stated intent of finding amazi-girl and the implicit intent of scaring the bejesus out of the rest of campus as collective punishment for the protest.

      1. thanks! i can’t believe i never picked up on that

really sorry if this is the wrong place for this, Wack’d, but have you considered adding an emoji to the disclaimer on your messages? (eg 🌴 this is *not* […[, vs ⚖️ this *is* […]) it might just be me, but it always takes me several takes to tell if the moderator hat is on 🙃

        1. I like how blizzard always did it, where posts made in an official capacity had a different text color.

Hm. I like that idea better. Quick check to see if the comments HTML lets me…

        3. Well, @Wack’d, I’m not sure that green is a great color over the cyan background of the website. Contrast is a bit off.

yeah i just picked a neutral-seeming hex code arbitrarily. will definitely keep contrast in mind if/when i pick a moderation color

  3. apropos of nothing, Joyce’s breasts look especially large today XD

    1. dorothy’s sexy shirt is working as intended

    2. idk if she’s wearing a diff bra but it might just be more so that her top is low cut

    3. I wish my breasts looked especially large today… ~<3

      1. Same, sister. Same.

    4. I was also thinking Joyce was showing more clevage and wondering if that was accidental or if it has been increasing over time as part of or because of her awakening.

    5. I just noticed that in the preview panel version of this strip, Joyce isn’t showing any cleavage. Maybe her boobs are looking bigger because Dorothy’s shirt is small on her?

  4. I sense a bad idea incoming.

    1. well, they could ask carla to pay them off but i doubt she’d wanna give the cops any money after what happened

  5. she’s gotta get the whole campus dressed up in Amazi-Suits so they can I Am Sparticus the cops away from campus

    1. I was cheering for Dorothy maybe having a bad idea of impersonating a certain supergirl, but you know? This could be just as, if not more, fun

    2. didn’t amazi-girl have some ‘tracker app’? Would think they’d use that

      1. Amazi-girl did have a tracker app. But it was one she wrote herself (and I suspect is probably pretty secure) so it wold not be useful outside of Amber’s circle if friends

    3. AllTheseSquaresMakeACircle

Considering the last time Amazi-Girl met the cops they stabbed her with their totally illegal “but we’re cops so who cares” knives that they are not supposed to have on duty, that does not seem like a good idea. Doubly so since they have shown they are willing to teargas and beat the living shit out of the student body during a peaceful protest just to make a point.

    4. I dunno. That seems like that would go VERY badly, VERY quickly. The cops have already shown they’re perfectly willing to stab Amazi-Girl. It wouldn’t take much to go a step further, to shooting at her in “self defense.”

Edit: It WOULD be funny as hell, though.
      “I am Amazi-Girl!”
      “*I* am Amazi-Girl!”
      “I’M Amazi-Girl, and so’s my wife!”

      1. Amazi-Girl would definitely be treated as highly dangerous and rightly so. Shouldn’t be “shoot on sight” orders, but given that she assaulted multiple groups of riot cops and had little trouble holding them off, they’re going to be pretty damn nervous.
And honestly, it’s hard to blame them. (Blame them for excessive force ending the protest, sure.) But they’re dealing with a street level super hero here and they’re not trained for that. She’s not armed, but she’s clearly dangerous. They’ll treat her as such.
It’s basically authorial fiat she didn’t at least get shot at during the protest. And it would have been treated as a good shoot. The stabbing was probably more likely to get the cop in trouble than shooting her would have.

transcripts and location tags are complete through tomorrow! very put out that the html for text size in the transcript field doesn’t parse, but it what it is. at least i can stop using all-caps for emphasis.
    .
also did you know that the green spaces on iu campus are dunn meadow and dunn’s woods? what’s with that

    1. complete how? you mean transcripts are all done ALREADY? Kudos!

        .
complete as in i bridged the gap of several days where the most recent comic did not have them. every comic from after i first got access to the backend is done. the rest of the comic’s fifteen years are gonna take. longer.

        1. I see, so to what storyline are you up to at this point for past comic transcripts?

i have september and october of 2010 done. like i said the other day, i do these for fun. i have. not had a lot of time or energy for fun lately. not cuzza other site duties, just life stuff.

        3. that’s just fine, Wack’d :)

        4. I hope things will start going better for you soon. Both of you, really.

    2. QueenofSodor

they did it like that to spite you specifically

    3. What’s up with the name Dunn is that the family who used to own the land were named Dunn. The old Dunn family cemetery is also still on campus. They also used to have a bunch of things named after an old administrator until recently when his history with eugenics caused them to change that. They weren’t even the only school that took his name off of things.

      1. This post is not made in a moderating capacity.
        .
right but why is one possessive and not the other

        1. in my experience the spostophy gets lost of part of the name gets lost. so maybe it was the dunn family’s meadow before or something

        2. spostophy? Google thinks you mean spotify.

    4. They knew what they were doing when they Dunn it.

  7. Why would the raids all occur at the same time every day? That’s not tactically sound.

    1. In addition to being Bastards, Cops are frequently not very bright.

    2. At a guess, because the point is less tactical soundness and more terrorizing the students on a thin pretext in order to impress on them that this is the result of protesting. And because the point is partially that even if it doesn’t convince the protesters not to for next time, it’ll already have turned other students against them.

    3. If they’re thinking tactically at all (which they very well might not be), I suspect they think their failure to find evidence on the first raid means they aren’t going to on subsequent raids. They couldn’t get anything on the likeliest hiding location with no warning, odds of finding evidence on subsequent raids is low.

The goal is probably causing enough terror to make someone turn snitch.

EDIT: (this was the first time in several months the edit function was actually available, and I want to celebrate that)

      1. Say it:
        nnnn
        bsssssp
        :-)

        1. Non-breaking space, if that helps people remember.
Of course, some of us are nerdy enough that we remember the nbsp but have to doublecheck what it actually stands for.

    4. more than likely it’s just because it’s the time the college would probably have enough students in classes.

  8. Joyce discovers the American police system

  9. …I just thought of how Amber and Dorothy’s resemblance could be used in the worst possible way.

    1. I think they’ve been photographed together, which would probably prevent Dorothy from pretending to be Clark Kent in this situation.

      1. I wasn’t thinking of Dorothy taking the fall for the identity. My thought was her impersonating Amazi-Girl in-costume, and creating some sort of incident to lure the police away in some unspecified way I haven’t thought of (which the real Amazi-Girl can’t do, due to being out of commission). We know from Halloween she can dye her hair brown on short notice. And it could go horribly wrong in too many ways to count.

        1. Didn’t think of it, but you’re right. That’s a plan that is sensible enough that Dorothy wouldn’t outright reject it in the planning stages but which is still stupid enough that it’d be a really bad idea. Might happen.

      2. Amazi-Girl and Sal were frequently spotted together but a spot-on reporter like Jennifer still thinks Sal is AG.

        1. AllTheseSquaresMakeACircle

I question Jennifer’s recollection of anything that happened in her first semester as she spent most of it either drunk or detoxing or being an ass to what few friends she had on campus.

  10. Does anyone have an explanation for the alt text? Why would Willis be recoloring shirts in the preview panels? Did Joyce and Dorothy have a wardrobe change spoiler that I missed as part of their getting together?

    1. Since they started sleeping with each other, they’ve been sharing clothes. This was recently brought up 12 pages ago: https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/twomoreminutes/

  11. Two Possibilities:
    1. Dorothy the organizer tries to make a protest against police overreach in the dorms.
    2. Dorothy calls the FBI and makes things so much worse.
But yes, I like Joyce and Dorothy most when they’re involved in things like Bulmeria, ACAP, and their little lesbian antifa. I feel it’s much more interesting when it’s not just their relationship but the complicated politics they’re negotiating with Dorothy as the Face of RebellionTM.

  12. Someone replied to me saying that this could be tied to the dirty cops bought by the cops and it reframed this for me immensely, i just thought the cops were being dicks, wouldn’t be out of character for the police

    1. I really like that idea, but don’t believe the mob’s pocketed police are behind this. They already know from Blaine that Amber is Amazi-Girl, if they wanted to go after her they would not be wasting resources going to a second dorm and would likely have done a better job finding (or framing) Amber yesterday. Also, the mob seem to just not really care about Amazi-girl, as she’s was out of action for most of the last semester and was really only ever involved in taking down relatively petty crime on campus and discouraging drunk teenagers. The mob likely doesn’t think going after Amber is worth the trouble or risk of exposure – she’s not really a threat to their buisness but killing a teenage girl or dragging a superhero to trail on false pretenses might bring the eyes of people and powers that might be.

      1. This again? Please provide a link where Blaine informed them that Amber was Amazi-Girl.
        .
I can provide a link to where he tells them she isn’t, that she’s incapable.
        https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/opaque/

        1. Huh, I guess I misremembered, or orginally misread, that. Thanks for pointing that out and providing a helpful link.

        2. No problem. You’re far from the first person to make that claim.

  13. The Ominous Meter is registering for every single panel here. :O

    1. For a second I thought this said Optimus meter – which I contend runs from G1 upto Bayeverse, unless you want to include Shattered Glass. But yes, this is a very ominous series of panels, especially with its tight framing. I give it a War for Cybertron on the Optimus meter.

      1. An excellent system for measurement!

  14. Dorothy, no. Don’t steal Amazi-Girl’s outfit to try and get yourself taken so the raids stop. No. Bad Dorothy, no self-destructive acts in an attempt at selflessness.

  15. Welcome to life in America, Joyce.

  16. This is exactly the outcome Luthen desired!

  17. Joyce previously called their actions “heroically gay” not realizing Dorothy would take that in a “Supergirl in Crisis on Infinite Earths” type of way

  18. Ngl this is me catastrophizing a lil bit but a big fear of mine is that the story line post Joyce and Dotty flailing around selfishly at the previous protest and putting themselves in danger not listening to protest leaders, will now suddenly protest leaders themselves now that they have a person stake into why they should care and then together push back against the unjust actions of the police.

I hope thats not where things go and instead Dotty just uses her connection at the paper to write in support of the movement and they genuinely join it rather than taking it over (or atleast this part of it)

  19. O God, is Joyce considering . . . . TATTLING? I mean, you could easily make the argument that Amazi-Girl IS putting everyone else in danger as long as she keeps playing hide-and-seek with the cops, BUT . . . .!

Another possibility: Joyce shows up in front of the police in full costume (I think the costume’s in Joyce’s room at this point?) and shouts “*I* am Amazi-Girl! Stop this oppression at once!”

    1. COULD be a valid idea if she had a solid alibi for the time when several cops got attacked and injured by Amazi-Girl.
Like, if she had provably been in front of three cameras and a room full of witnesses at the time? This could throw some severe sand into the investigation. Go to jail, let them derail, then clank down impeccable alibi after several weeks.
A massive pain to shake all that sade off afterwards, but doable.

But since she was running from the declared-illegal protest herself at the time?
It would be a complete self-sacrifice.
Court for attacking cops and vigilantism, very probably prison for “terrorism” nowadays, and of course thrown from uni at once. Bye bye main character….

    2. Joyce seems more like a person who would give Amber’s location to the cops for the sake of the rest of the students, whereas Dotty seems more like the type to dress up as Amazi-Girl and take the blame herself in an attempt to save EVERYONE.

Both are the wrong decisions, but the correct way to get the cops to back off while making sure Amber/Amazi-Girl’s secret is protected is far more nuanced and, to me, Joyce and Dotty want every bad thing to be fixed ASAP.

      1. This post is not made in a moderating capacity.
        .
joyce has historically reacted very poorly to the idea of handing friends over to authorities for “the greater good”. both becky kidnappings, for instance.

      2. This is literally the opposite of the type of person Joyce has shown herself to be

    3. The costume is not in Joyce’s room. It is in Dina’s room, because Sal had Jennifer put it there.

      1. Also, just what is this far more nuanced correct way to get the cops to back off???

  20. Calling it now, Joyce is gonna ruin this because she in an attempt to protect the student body sell out Amazi-Girl which 100% will hurt her relationship with….honestly probably everyone but especially DORTHY and whatever is left with Walky.

    1. This post is not made in a moderating capacity.
      .
genuinely unclear on why people think this is a thing joyce would do. joyce begged becky not to go with her dad in kidnapping attempt number one even though ross was armed and dangerous. she said she respected dorothy less for even pretending sell becky out to ross during kidnapping number two, and that’s when she personally and almost everyone else she knew was in imminent danger. you can say a lot about joyce but she’s not a “the good of the many outweighs the good of the one” type.

      1. Totally agree with this. Also, Joyce has a ton of reasons for gratitude to Amber & Amazi-Girl, not just for what she did during the kidnappings, but also for saving Dorothy from Ryan and putting him in the hospital. There’s no way Joyce would sell her out to the cops. Doing something stupid to distract them seems much more likely to me.

      2. I’ve clearly not been joyces #1 fan lately but this is such a baffling misunderstanding of her character. Like. Is this your first page? Have you read??? The comic??? At all????? Joyce is more likely to punch a cop than sell any of her friends out for any reason

  21. Eventually, cost/boredom/other priorities will kick in and the cops will stop
Or the real world press will get wind of this stupid waste of resources
    Anyway, ACAB
