About

The Quebec Cooperative of Independent Bookstores brings together, under the name Les libraires, more than 125 independent bookstores in Quebec, the Maritimes, Ontario and Manitoba. Its members are committed to both books and book readers and to the vitality of the literary scene.

In 2026, LIQ’s digital expertise was shared Canada-wide when it deployed booksellers.ca, an extension of its leslibraires.ca site, which unites Canadian English-language booksellers in a single marketplace. Thus, LIQ is creating an unprecedented collective salesforce, able to rival the web giants and major online retailers.

The leslibraires.ca and booksellers.ca platforms constitute a pan-Canadian one-stop shop that brings together 150 independent booksellers from sea to sea in one place. With bookstores located throughout the country and available online, this network fosters accessibility, diversity and the discovery of books by Canadian authors, in both official languages.

These bookstores are also grouped together on our transactional Website, which offers a selection of over 2,000,000 print books and 1,000,000 digital books, at any time. Buying local, right in your neighbourhood, just two clicks from home, is not only possible, it’s easy.

Independent to the core

The approach of independent bookstores hinges on proximity, diversity and service. They are not part of a chain or business group and have no more than five points of sale. Each of them has its own personality. It is a place where you can find advice and where back catalogue books often have pride of place.

Independent booksellers stand out for their dedication to everything they do, as well as their professionalism, high quality service and community engagement.
