Route Overview
The train covers roughly 1,995 miles between New Orleans and Los Angeles in about two nights onboard (schedule times commonly fall in the high-40-hour range; always verify the current timetable). Major stops typically include Houston, San Antonio, Del Rio, Alpine, El Paso, Tucson, Maricopa (Phoenix area), Yuma, Palm Springs, and points into the Los Angeles basin.
Important: Long-distance frequency and consist details can change. Historically the train has not always run daily end-to-end—confirm operating days, through cars, and any bus connections on Amtrak.com before you lock nonrefundable plans.

Daylight tip: Because the train spans two nights, which desert segments you see in daylight depends on direction and season. Check sunrise/sunset against the current timetable if a specific stretch (for example, west Texas) is your priority.
