This is the reccing challenge to rec at least three fanworks you didn't create. I have rec lists to come for
hderised and
snape_potter's Secret Snarry Swap, but I want to finish reading from both fests first which I haven't yet done and won't have chance to do until the week after next. So here are three recs for each of my OTPs and three rare pair recs in the meantime.
#1. Burn The Curtains and The Wine by PalenDrome (Nerdherderette)
I'm pretty much the only person on the planet that hasn't seen Mr and Mrs Smith, but this terrific story was no less fun because of it. I was captivated from the opening line that drew me right in and the sharpness of Harry and Draco's relationship with an undercurrent of feels was just a delight. The world building is great, the writing engaging and I couldn't read quickly enough to see what would happen next.
#2. Thunder by
keyflight590
Draco hits rock bottom after leaving his job as an Auror and his relationship with Harry far behind, only to bump into Harry again in the most unexpected place. I loved the different threads woven through this story, Draco's struggles with addiction, the way he and Harry gradually find their way back to a place of trust and love. I adored the thunderstorms, the dragons, the unfolding story of the events that pulled Harry and Draco apart and eventually drew them back together again. I love a getting back together story and this is a particularly enjoyable one with a great balance of warmth and angst.
#3. Palace of Eternity by
gracerene09
Grace has written some terrific Drarry fics this year, and I loved all of them, but this one in particular really stuck with me. It was such a cool take on the vampire trope, exploring what it means to be immortal and the pain and loss that comes with that. Another getting back together fics of sorts, with fresh and interesting settings, gorgeous writing and just a thoroughly enjoyable fic.
#1. Severus's Story (or, A Hero's Tale) by avioleta
This is just beautiful. I adore this author's writing and this story with a mature, powerful Harry seen through the eyes of Severus is really wonderful. Mixing Arthurian legend into the tale, together with the slow, evocative development of the relationship between Severus and Harry, the whole thing is absolutely marvelous. A gorgeous read.
#2. Miles to Go Before I Sleep by pluperfectsunrise
I love fics that have Severus and Harry meeting once a year and this one centers around them meeting for their annual Amnesty Dance, a dance first instigated by Harry when society is deeply distrustful of Severus. This is a quiet, slow story as Harry and Severus grow closer and move towards a heartwarming, happy ending.
#3. I love hanatsuiki89's art and the DADA Professor Harry and Severus Lives AU is one of my favourites. Here's one where Snape's instincts to save Harry from mortal danger kick in HERE and because we're still in January also check out this gorgeous New Year's piece HERE. Both pieces of art are work safe.
#1. Palm-Shaped Leaves In New Shades (Amelia Bones/Remus Lupin, Remus Lupin/Sirius Black, Amelia Bones/OFCs) by
paulamcg
This is a lovely story which focuses on Amelia Bones, through the first flush of adolescence and a growing friendship with Remus Lupin, to coming to understand herself slowly over time. A really nice exploration of coming of age, first love, fluidity of sexuality and asexuality together with a rich and vibrant cast of characters and lovely, evocative writing. I loved the references to music and literature in this too, it felt so of its time and the care for both the characters and the era they lived in was clear.
2. hold my hand and i'll hold yours (Hermione Granger/Ginny Weasley) by
icarusinflight
I loved this little festive treat which is so warm and atmospheric with the overwhelming buzz of the Christmas markets and Hermione taking such good care of Ginny when she feels uncomfortable in the crowds. Really soothing, lovely fic.
#3. Footsteps by
malenkayacherepakha (James Potter/Sirius Black)
This was a fill for one of my prompts over at
daily_deviant's Kinky Kristmas and I loved it so much. Super hot and sexy dynamic with eager exhibitionist James and Remus watching James and Sirius and getting off on it. UNF.
