Happy 75th to Woody today, I think it's 75. I can't believe neither AMC nor TCM has a single Woody Allen movie all day today. what a ripoff. luckily I have almost all my faves on DV-R and DVD.
for anyone who has the IFC channel, every monday night they do at least 1 woody movie, they call it "IFC's Monday Night Woody" (I think that's supposed to be a veiled sexual reference). I don't know how long they've been doing it but hopefully it'll continue for a while. last week was both Annie Hall and Manhattan (finally got to see Manhattan for the first time!) and tomorrow night at 6pm is Sleeper.
(november 10) edit: well, it's over already ): but they still have several of his movies on the forthcoming schedule on the website.
I missed this in the theaters and when I heard of the mixed reviews it decreased my desire to see it. What a fool am I! I cannot believe I doubted my favorite writer/director. I simply adored the film. It's pure Woody in his classic cynical views of the world, the very reason I fell in love with him. Yet underneath all of his misanthropic tendencies, he still makes me laugh loudly in wild agreement because he is a man of my own heart. Sure, to the casual observer, those unfamiliar with Woody's style, it may seem self-indulgent, but he's the writer and it's HIS FILM. I wouldn't want it any other way. I think Woody found a winner w/ Larry David. I'm definitely adding this DVD to my WA collection.
Mr. Allen, you ARE a genius! ;)

There are plenty of folks that have found themselves part of the troupe of Woody Allen actors that appeared in multiple films. Of those folks, who would you like to include in your own dream Woody Allen movie?
I'd love to see a Woody Allen movie with:
Woody (obviously)
Diane Keaton
Scarlett Johansson
Tony Roberts
Dianne Weist
Julie Kavner
Alan Alda
Judy Davis
This community no longer seems to be active, but I'll try anyway.
This has been driving me mad. There's a scene in "Sleeper," I think when Miles and Luna are trying to steal the nose, that's a parody of the opening scene of an Ingmar Bergman film (I'm pretty sure it was Ingmar Bergman; I saw parts of the film in a cinema class a long time ago but don't remember which). It's close-ups of people's faces in the audience (in "Sleeper," it's close-ups of the faces of the scientists watching Miles and Luna.) What film is this from??? I won't be able to sleep until I figure it out.
Happy birthday, Mr. Allen!
Hey,
I have a question for you Woody Allen lovers. I'm writing a report for my film class in which I have to choose a theme running through 3 films of a director of my choice. I chose Woody Allen and the theme of two sides of a coin. So far, I have reality versus illusion in the Purple Rose of Cairo and tragedy versus drama in Melinda and Melinda. I'm stuck on choosing the third film. Any ideas??
