style?

I don't remember if I posted this question already or not. So I'll try it again.

There is a style of construction. I don't know what it's called. I'll try to describe it. We have a child's rocking chair that is made from plywood, and all the parts slip together in matching slots. I have also seen doll cradles, tables, picnic tables, and a bed of this design.

Is there a name for that slot-in-slot assembly? I would love to find more patterns for that and I think if there was a name for that style, it would be easier to find.

Thanks in advance.

glue solvents

I am currently trying to refinish and repair a library table built by my grandfather in the 1930's. He glued the pieces together before screwing them secure. Anyone know of a solvent I could use to loosen the glue that won't damage the wood?

Shiny bone work

Not exactly wood but hope it's okay to post this here anyway?

I didn't know you could polish bone and antler into a nice shine until someone told me to youtube search "scrimshaw"... whoa. Shiny!

So here is a necklace pendant and 1 ring I've shined so far.

My Latest Pyrographic Piece: Snow White

Snow White Pyrography - After

This is the first piece I did that was with a concept completely taken from my imagination. I only used a few reference points for the crown and the heart box. In the apple are lodged jewels that I chose to represent the dwarfs.

It is painted and burnt onto a wooden plaque.

...This is what it looked like before I painted it...Collapse )

Greta Garbo Pyrography Portrait

I burnt this one this week. It took me about an hour - two hours. I was so nervous when I began to burn it because I was convinced I was going to mess up her features. And if there's one thing you don't want to do is mess up Greta Garbo's face - one of the most recognizable faces ever. lol But I'm very proud with the way this one turned out!

Mounting a sliding drawer underneath a shelf

So, I'm thinking about making a small wooden drawer (20" wide, 8" deep, 6" high) I want to mount under a shelf in a freestanding shelving unit as a solution to a interesting storage problem with the unit. I was looking at slider hardware, I'm not sure what to look for. Would it be best to buy normal hardware, and mount it to pieces of wood, and then attach them to the underside of the shelf?

Also, a long while ago I asked some questions about making wooden fenders for a bike. I got around to doing this. It worked out pretty well, thanks! Here are some photos of the process:
