I throw a random link. :B This is audio from the US Airways crash in January, with text from the cockpit recorders overlaid on a map of the plane's path from the bird strike to its eventual landing in the husband Hudson. As the kid of two aviators, this is awesome to watch, and a huge credit to not only Captain Sullivan but his flight crew as well.
Putting this here with no substantial comment; will maybe type up a dissection of this later. I find the assertion that written text and literate culture will completely disappear by 2050 kind of wishful thinking, though. And somewhat ignorant of the advantages that text offers over oral culture.
--Murky PS: The answer on mathematics is comedy, though: "I’m not a mathematician, and, to be honest, I don’t know how theoretical math will be done in the future, but I’m sure that it won’t rely on the written numeral system we use today. Numerals are too complicated and inefficient a way to store, retrieve, and communicate mathematical information."

Given I can't access it right now, I've dug out a three-year-old unfinished thing to post up. It's part of the A Child's Book of Names series. I am not particularly happy with it, but posting it is mostly a goad to myself to work on something constructive with that series at some point.

I think I need a Gate icon with an actual character that I play there. Flaming Kirby would be awesome but I'm not sure that would actually get approved. (Memo to self: Make Feverfew icon.)
ANYHOW. As people may or may not know, I am now GateMUSH's resident Tree Druid. This is proving quite enjoyable, actually! But I am interested in eventually getting an alt. Currently I'm thinking of a character from Holly Lisle's Secret Texts series. Unfortunately I don't think anyone on the MUSH has read any of the books. XD That, and the character I'd really like to play has exactly one power, that being complete immunity to magic.
