Short Race is a type of Field Event in Kirby Air Riders, having a chance to appear during City Trial on default settings. Like the Field Event variation of Dustup Derby, it begins with a reception where a blue field becomes active for riders to enter for 15 seconds. Heading inside pits the entrants against one another to reach the finish line in a linear course through Skyah to earn Patches. Short Races also appear in Road Trip as challenges.

Overview

The Field Event begins with an announcement and a compass above the player to help them find the reception area, which will be in one of two places: around the beach, or near the rail station at the city. Once entered, riders will earn random Patches once every couple of seconds until the Short Race starts. Machines participating in the race are intangible to those outside of the race, and vice-versa.

Once the reception period ends, a final countdown begins, which kicks off the contest. The races themselves are both linear routes through Skyah, with impassible holographic walls forming a path. They are not circuitous. Riders can attack each other, and if someone's machine is destroyed, they are disqualified. The race ends when all but one rider has reached the finish line, or after a long time. Numerous patches are awarded, especially to higher-placed racers. Additionally, a number of Patches occupy the track itself. The faster the race is completed, the sooner a rider can go back to scavenging Skyah.

In Road Trip, the same two routes from City Trial are used in a number of challenges.
