In the government part, it calls Iran a "under an authoritarian dictatorship" which is biased and wrong. There is free elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran and presidents are chosen by people while supreme leaders are chosen by the council. Dictatorship means a country governed by a dictator, and dictator means a ruler with total control over the country who gained the power by force and not chosen by people. Islamic Revolution of Iran was done by Iranians and the supreme leader is chosen by 99 clerics. SpaDc111 (talk) 09:06, 11 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Day Creature (talk) 13:52, 11 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
In the government column of the infobox, it says about Iran: "Unitary presidential theocratic Islamic republic under an authoritarian dictatorship". This should be changed to "Unitary presidential theocratic Islamic republic" because this is against the rules of Wikipedia, it is a opinion of someone and not a verified fact. Many sources refer to North Korea as a dictatorship too, but the term "under dictatorship" can't be found in their government page of the infobox. As i said, there are free elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran and also multiple parties. Supreme leader is also chosen, not by people but by clerics. At some point, it became fashionable on Wikipedia for people to add as many adjectives and qualifiers as possible to the government type in country infoboxes, and to add "under an authoritarian dictatorship" for countries that are enemies of the West. They generally cherry-pick sources to do so (although for this article no sources are even cited). It's a pretty blatant example of WP:SYNTH, as Wikipedia is the only place where you'll find government types described this way. All that being said, we'll need a consensus to make any changes, and likely a request for comment. North Korea is an example of an article where this was done. The infobox there used to say it was a "unitary one-party socialist republic under a totalitarian hereditary dictatorship", but eventually a consensus was found to change this. changes to identifying the nation of Iran in its article

edit

1. Condemnation from simply authoritarian to TOTALITARIAN DICTATORSHIP In government type 2. renamed to Iran/Persia as name of article 3. Request to change article to include Iran as a terrorist state BCWOZ9 (talk) 12:46, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

i can't fulfill this request, nor am I an expert in what goes in the area, but I think calling Iran a terrorist state would not follow WP:NEUTRAL. One Reaction was here. Got a complaint? 18:46, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
The information in the article is based on reliable sources and not the whims of random people making demands. JasonMacker (talk) 19:06, 24 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
okay? but how do we know they are reliable? i'm still kind of learning how to wiki, don't mind me. One Reaction was here. Got a complaint? 12:19, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request to identify Iran as a military dictatorship in infobox

edit

I’d like to request that Iran be identified as a unitary Islamic presidential republic under an authoritarian military dictatorship, given that since the 2026 Iran war, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have effectively seized political control per multiple established media outlets. A recent report from Reuters explaining that such power is concentrated through the Supreme National Security Council, which corroborates that it’s indeed the most politically critical wartime institution, given that its previous secretary, Ali Larijani, was seen seen as Iran’s latest de facto leader before his death. The template is meant to summarize the article text, per MOS:IBP, and the article text does not say that. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:55, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
