Ugh.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone else's eyes are totally messed up (ie. wrinkly, red sensitive skin) due to their goggles? I'm assuming it's because of my goggles.. I like them tight for races because I wear contacts and i'm terrified of having them fall off for that reason :/ But I was just wondering if anyone had this problem and if you found some solution? I'm planning to get eye cream or something as soon as I go back home.. ack, it's so annoying :(

P.S.- crossposted :}

I know theres a few coaches on here so I was just looking for some tips....
Do you have any short workout ideas (around an hour's time) to work a lot of stuff, especially freestyle?

I'm in the off season but I didn't want to join and club because I'm too busy, so I usually swim after school for around an hour but I never know what to do...

Anything would be helpful =)
Swimmer

*NEW*

Hi, I'm Melissa and I'm sixteen (junior in high school) and I live in the Los Angeles area.

I'm a high school swimmer and I do club as well.
I really only swim the 50 free (short course-- for HS)
and I do a leg of the 50 in the 200Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay.
(well that was all last HS season)
&I came in 6th in the league for JV for the 50 free. :(.

I never got to practice because I'm on my high schools dance team as well and we're actually pretty good (better than the swim team :X) so without ever practicing my best time for the 50 free was a 28 something (how horrible), but I guess not to bad for someone who never practiced right? But this year I cut down on how many dances I will be competing so that leads me to one practice a week instead of the three.

Well I have a bad knee(actually I damaged the ligament badly in the inside of my knee) (I got it from doing gymnastics for ten years) and I'm currently in the process of fixing it instead of having surgery (bolts in my leg and tightening all my muscles in my knee) and I was told in November not to do anything until February (HS season starts then) but I can't it's driving me insane.

Soo my endurance pretty much sucks ever since I was forced to quit gymnastics- thats why I'm a sprinter (possibly the shortest one too I'm only 5'1) so I need some tips on endurance.
Also butterfly. That is the one stroke I can't do I did competitive swimming when I was 7-8 or something and I still couldn't do it then.

So yeah just tips for those two would be much appreciated.
&Also girls post your time for the 50 free short course.

--- plans for the 06 HS swim season.
-swim the 50 free
-100 free
-do a leg in a relay or two
-possibly a 50 back.

Improving breast stroke

Hey all,

Recently, I changed my breast stroke style - I always used to swim it on the surface, and I never came out of the water as much as everyone else did. I always stayed close to the surface. My coach commented last year that the way I swam my breast stroke was very different from how the majority of other people swim it (meaning I stay close to the surface and I don't come out of the water as much as the other swimmers do when they breathe), but I'm still moving as fast (or faster) then them all. However, this year a girl on my team (who's an amazing swimmer) showed me a thing or two about breaststroke. When she does it she dives below the surface, and squeezes her arms against her head (to stream line). Supposedly being under the surface reduces the drag, and allows you to go faster, and obviously, streamlining yourself makes you go faster. So, I've started doing that...and it's definately helping, and it's a bit more energy efficient as well.

I'm a breast stroker on my high school swim team. I can do the 50m in about 45s, and the 100 in 1.40s. I'm swimming the 100m at our next two meets, and I'm really looking to get that time down. Preferably in the 1.30ish area.
I know that your starts and turns can make a big difference with your time, and mine are alright, but can use some improvement.
Any tips as to what I can do in the water, or out of the water to improve my time?

does anyone have tips on how to improve sprint times (ie. 50, 100 free), either in or out of water?

i can never seem to get mine down. our team was really unorganized this year, and i hate how most sprinters can slack off and still do well, but i can't. so i need to work at it more i guess...

suggestions?

HELPPP!

Breaststroke has always been my natural and best stroke. My best time for 100 yards is 1:03 and this year I haven't gotten under 1:08.1!!! I am doing everything I have been doing for the last few years where I have swam in the 1:03-1:05 range. I have even added a leg/lower body workout to improve my leg strength. All my other events (besides fly) are going well, and I'm almost swimming my best times in those strokes. Why is my breast and fly struggling this year while my other strokes are just as good as they've ever been? Do I need to do more breast/fly in practice? Any suggestions at all would be appreciated!!

Finswimming training?

Anyone have a finswimming training routine? Anyone been specifically coached in finswimming?

I make mine up as I go, and I have never been coached. I'm thinking about checking out a coach in a neighbouring city, and then possibly starting something here. Finswimming practice has so many applications....

So what are your thoughts?!

I posted here a while ago about having to go to physical therapy for my knees.
Well it was so worth it.
My knees are a lot stronger and my breaststroke is getting faster.
But my knees still hurt sometimes when I run.
I obviously stop when they start hurting and do leg exercises instead.
But I don't know why they hurt. They never hurt any other time.
I was wondering if anything like this has happen to anyone else.

I will never take swimming in a pool with nice, roomy lane lines for granted ever again. Open water swimming is the pits. How do ya'll feel about it? Any tips?
Oh, and I was wondering if any of you have swam as an "independant" for your high school? I'm trying that out this year and any insights would be an enormous help!

Also, I'm going to feel really out of touch saying this, but what do you do for dry land training? So far I've only swam for my town's summer team and we're not exactly cracking the whip over here, so our workouts have only been in the pool. I was really hoping if I could gather some good exercises and whatnot that I can incorporate into my volleyball practices, as to kill two birds with one stone.
