Huh. I see the "best blonde joke ever" is making the rounds again.

(Or it's still making the rounds. That's what I always wonder when I see a meme I haven't encountered for a while: did someone decide to revive it after a long hiatus, or did it really just take this long to get around to that particular corner of the Internet?

Of course, the other thing I'm wondering right now is whether this post counts as a propagation or more of a meta-propagation. This is one of those times I wish LJ had a Trackback feature.)

Two emails arrived in my spam folder with subject lines advertising Viagra and whatnot, but with the following text(s):

back different mischievous anybody make miserable? he corner did fascinate. wife make reply.
hard letters added bad.
carefully prison tying least? yours a wife companion. purpose respect again pride wife.
am explain force few nothing find.
thats young hard disappoint teach reference. arms force taught he again? my purpose evening wanted least somewhere.

I feel like there must be a story with an actual plot hidden in there somewhere. In fact I'm tempted to challenge somebody to write it.

Can anyone tell me if strawberries are somehow related to catnip? Ki seems to react awfully...interestingly to them. (More so than he does to catnip, actually.)

The executive director of the Cal Alumni Association, or so it would appear from this postcard I have lately received, is named...Randy Parent.

I really hope he doesn't actually have kids. I can just imagine the PTA meetings.

Seen on the bumper of a minivan this morning:

"How can there be too many children? That's like saying there are too many flowers."

On a not unrelated note, why the hell do so many people have vanity plates that just state the make and model of the car? Do they think we won't notice how cool their car is if they don't point it out to us?

The following thought drifted through my head during lunch today, and it wasn't until a moment later that I realized I'd composed an inadvertent haiku:

The chicken is good--
I should have grabbed more of that
and less of the rice.

(I didn't say it was a particularly interesting thought.)

1. Do you follow any cultural superstitions (e.g., avoiding the number thirteen, picking up pennies)?
In a half-assed way that's typical of most of my beliefs. That is, I do all the things that are supposed to bring you good luck (or at least the ones that don't take too much effort) and try to believe they'll work, while trying not to believe in the things that are supposed to bring you bad luck. It's all a matter of believing the things that are pleasant to believe and not those that are unpleasant, in my book.

2. Do you have any personal superstitions (e.g. wearing a certain item of clothing to bring you luck)?
Not really. I guess it's too much work making up my own.

3. Did your parents have any superstitions? What were they? Do you believe in them?
Not that I know of. Certainly none that they ever mentioned to me.

4. Make up a new superstition and share it with us (who know, maybe it will catch on!).
Er...how 'bout this: When a bird flies into your window and dies, you must do a dance of propitiation (involving much twittering and arm-flapping) to appease its spirit or it will come back to haunt you.

5. Did you notice the date today? Does it affect you at all (e.g. make you nervous, make you happy)?
Not till I had it pointed out to me. It does make me mildly nervous, but I am valiantly trying to suppress this and I certainly don't plan on behaving differently than usual.

Suddenly I discover I'm not the only one who somehow thinks anything that happened in the '90s only took place a couple of years ago. I feel much better now.

Okay, I have officially had it up to here with Eudora. Can anyone recommend another email program for me to use at work? One that doesn't do things like jump me to different places in my inbox without warning, thereby causing me to miss the fact that ten emails came in an hour ago that I never saw?
