I have a meeting with Ian's teacher and the resources teacher, to discuss Ian and possibly an IEP. Poor kid - he dreads school more and more. When we were in Florida, he cheerfully announced to me that he loved going to Florida because he got to meet "some kids his age who would talk to me." I will see what tomorrow brings, and how much of it will br
e useful, but I keep returning to the idea of doing something different. I investigated some local charter schools, but they didn't thrill me much either. One that would be close by isn't accepting applications for this year. That leads me to come back to the idea of homeschooling, a thought that both thrills and frightens me. I have some friends that homeschool, and one told me once she was often surprised that I didn't - after all, I like to teach, I'm trained to teach. And I love some ideas about it - my kids will get more individual attention, we can work on areas of weakness and explore their own individual strengths and interests, and go at their speed. I love the idea that we could travel and make appointments at more convenient times, since we won't have to conform to a school day. I love the fact that the school day will be considerably shorter and more efficient. Lots of things worry me - will they get a lopsided education, due to me teaching more of what I'm interested in? Will there be too much togetherness? Can I find ways to give them social groups? My kids need to learn to socialize with other kids - that's certainly one of their weaknesses. I want to make sure thry learn to give and take, to compromise, listen to others, and work in groups. I had hoped that they would learn that in school, but Ian, at least, is learning how to cope when people around him are mean to him and leave him out. Not a lesson I hoped for. Will I have the patience to get them through their weak areas? Will I be able to provide enough structure? Without external monitoring, will I tend to take the easy way out or put off lessons in favor of other things? And, selfishly, will I be able to hsve time to pursue my own interests, not to mention running errands, etc? Argh. As always, I wish I had fewer questions and more Answers. For now, though, I can put off introspection temporarily. More later; right now, off to a weaving clas...

Demeter Fragrance Library

'Cause fishy1 's posts were so interesting, I had to order some stuff from Demeter Fragrance Library.  I should have done it sooner; then she could have tried them out, too.  I have Sawdust, Fresh Hay, Bonfire and Apple Pie.  The first three don't smell like much of anything in the bottles; I have Sawdust on, and it's living up to its name.  In the bottle, not loving the smell of the Apple Pie one right now.  All of them smell kinda alcohol-y in the bottles (not surprising), and I'm hoping that one will mellow on skin.  In the bottle?  A little like an artificial apple icing.  That's the closest I can get.  I'll test it out on me tomorrow.
In weirder news, I was driving down 540 yesterday and happened to glance out my window at the flatbed tow truck next to me.  On the back of it is the Ecto 1.  No kidding.  Satellite dish-looking thing on the roof, decals on the sides, everything.  I don't know if this is a portent of things to come or what.  I found myself wishing I was with whalegirl  or ryv_m so I could say "Good, you see it too," like we did with the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile.  This serves as an explanation, however, and cooberation of my claims.  ;)

Conscientious, Fulfilled, and Spiritual

20 Renaissance, 19 Islamic, 19 Ukiyo-e, -28 Cubist, -28 Abstract and 8 Impressionist!

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art. They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion. Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature. Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.

People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging. They tend to have a high emotional stability. They also tend to be more concientious then average. They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do. They enjoy life and enjoy living. They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present. They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered. These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive. They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife. They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature. They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

updates on treehouse and stuff

So I've been really bad about updating this.  I'm trying to get better... Blame my current failure on dealing with three little boys' birthday parties, a breakfast for the teachers at the elementary school, another little reception thing to plan, and other miscellanae.  Treehouse is slowly progressing.  I should probably be supervised in the ReStore -- too much cool stuff.  Got some really neat-looking cabinet doors to panel the inside of the treehouse with.  They made me think of a gypsy wagon.  The plan is to paint pictures/designs inside the panel.  They look like this:

Really wishing the heat would break some; it's draining just working for a little while each day.  And I want more treehouseness!  I'll post more pics on OTP of progress.  Found some designs for the panels -- I'm kinda going with knights, Robin Hood, King Arthur -- that kinda thing.  If anyone has some ideas or designs to send, let me know!  I think I have 20 some panels...  Exterior of the treehouse is going to be a greyed bluish green; inside is somewhat muted tones -- think weathered greens, reds, cream.  Or whatever whim strikes me.  :)  Rob built a cool stepladder.  Going up is fine; going down makes me a bit wobbly.  I think it's a combination of the rung spacing and the fact that I need to move the landing platform to be more square with the bottom of the ladder.  Ah, more digging...  My September and October are filling up with remarkable speed.  Between the boys' school stuff and soccer and actually getting to see friends, it's like that.  More later.
