(no subject)

I would like to invite everyone to my lovin_music community. I'm not sure how to invite people, so this works for me. You can check it out by going to my journal and seeing my user info. Then you know what to do.

Just trying to find a topic

I guess I want to find a topic to discuss, or have other people discuss. I'm not entirely sure, but there are a few things.

Censorship: the FCC is always trying to put a ban on things. I know that for a fact, but I sometimes feel that they've gone too far. We had this assembly at school one week ago today. They started talking about lyrics and how they're violent and wrong. I think that the artist is just trying to make money the best way they know how. People are listening to it too. With the whole Eminem thing a few years back; mothers were totally freaking out. I say if you don't like it, then don't listen to it. It seems like the most logical answer, at least to me. If you don't want your children to listen, don't let them. I feel like it's just common sense. Then, there are the songs that talk about doing drugs and having sex with women. There are either two truths to that, one, they actually do that; and two, they want to. Either way, it's giving them a paycheck to support their families (granted they have one). Everyone in the U.S. is trying to get by and make money to support themselves. We shouldn't look down on those that do it differently. They have their own way and we have ours. Everyone does things differently and some just can't accept that. It irritates me a little because they just don't understand. I might not understand it all either, so if I don't please enlighten me. I hope this was a good topic to discuss.

hello to all here

Hi, I am kind of new to the community and lj so if anyone has any advice, that would be great. You all can call me pirate, or just T. it doesn't really matter. I guess I could say a littele about myself. I'm not very far into high school, but I guess my thoughts are more advanced. I'm kind of smart, at least that's what my friends say. I like music, heavy metal or things with a good message, and my friends totally drive me nuts, but I love them anyways. Let's see, I do have firm beliefs on certain topics, it varies from different things. I am a little insecure, but independent, and afraid of online predators, feet (don't ask), alcoholics, and spiders. A little bit of the dark too. Who can blame me? I don't have street lights by my window. I have to go now, bye bye

I'm a writer, photographer and generalist living in the US western state of Colorado. I'm a newbie to communities and blogs--but so far I'm enjoying all of it. I'm not a fan of the United Nations, as they often seem to look good only on paper. However, as an open-minded sort I plan to look at the info on the UN here and do more research. I'm deeply concerned about how the US is conducting itself within its borders and globally. So my first question is "What is the United States global vision, or role?" It seems my home country is often in opposition to the utopian goals of this community. Just wondering?

hi!

I just stumbled upon this community, and I'm thrilled that it exists! yay for peace! Here's my long intro, I'm super-long-winded tonight. whew!
My icon, Ivan the Terrible, is a symbol of the opposite of everything this community stands for. Collapse )I use the icon because I think his is a tragic story, I like Russian history, I like the painting (I think it's a Kandinsky); and I use it to represent my Mr. Hyde side.
I'm a history lover and a reader. I like non-fiction, and sci-fi and fantasy. I love jazz and romantic-classical music. I like most other kinds of music too. I'm obsessed with Star Trek. I don't know as much about art as I would like to, but I enjoy museums. Collapse )
I'm originally from New York, but I live in Northern California now. I miss home, but I like it here. I've also lived in Colorado Springs; Pensacola, FL; and Enid, OK. I live with my husband, ljer ratontheroad, and our four wonderful cats.
Thanks for reading this whole thingy, I really like the community concept, and look forward to making friends here, I hope.

What do you think?

I was wondering what your opinions were.

Do you think that women have achieved total equality in American society? If not, will they? Why/why not?

Why do you think it is more acceptable for women to take on men's traditional roles (breadwinner) than it is for men to take on women's traditional roles (raising the children)? Is this a positive thing or a negative thing? Is it a step towards equality, or reverse discrimination?
