So Foothold was on the rerun circuit tonight. Foothold has always been one of my favorite episodes, not just because it starts so plausibly and just gets creepier and creepier (Foothold, AKA the one where giant cockroaches take over the SGC in an homage to Invasion of the Bodysnatchers.) I actually really dig this episode because the team, mostly being a rather kick-ass duo of Sam and Teal'c, are smart enough to trust each other implicitly when reasonable, and blow each other away if necessary (fortunately, that little incident was actually shooting an alien *impersonating* Colonel O'Neill, because actually offing your superior officer is probably just as against the regs as boffing your superior officer.)

Not to mention that some of my favorite recurring guest characters are in this one, and Major Davis's levels of snark ("Are you sure that's a GOOD IDEA, COLONEL???") are unmatched, and Maybourne is fabulously self-serving as always.

Let's face it, though, Sam is awesome in that episode: she's rational and logical and trusting and capable and always thinking. And she almost single-handedly saved the day. I think you might learn all the canon you really need to know about Sam in this episode. Plus, she and Teal'c are adorable.

This is not to take away from Teal'c's contributions, of course, because he figured out the whole thing, got the response started by waking Carter and providing a leather jacket, then sent her off to deal with politicians while he voluntarily stayed behind to kick-ass, get knocked out twice, and tortured in a fit of self-sacrific and biceps. Now, we know from season 9 Teal'c's feelings on politics, and it took until, what, season 10? For him to express fatigue about the whole torture thing, so I think what we can conclude here is that Teal'c is wicked smart, and felt like he'd arranged things quite satisfactorily.

Year in Fanfic-- annual fic round-up meme.

I've been writing fanfic for three years now, apparently (last year's fic roundup is here, the year previous is here. That's quite something, folks. You'll find all of it under the fanfic tag, anything bigger than a commentfic in the sidebar at left, and in this post.

Written in 2006 (I didn't write as much as in former years, I suspect due to a lot of traveling, moving and starting a new job. Other than that, I have no excuse) also titled: my attempts at playing with structure, let me show you them.

[ETA: I completely forgot this fic, probably because it was finished before 2007 began, but the reveal for the 3_ships ficathon wasn't until after. I got some feedback on the story today, though, and rereading it, it's not that bad, really. Foodporn and threesomes, how can you go wrong, really? Syncope, Cam/Vala/Sam pre-ship, S10, worksafe, but you'll crave cranberry sauce. The real stuff.]

And the one I just posted: Run for the reel_sg1 challenge, incorporating the themes of Run, Lola, Run. Teal'c and Daniel, S7's Avatar, PG-13. Structure 3 = cyclic.

Anyway. I'm home and still having trouble reading my own notes to actually get anything accomplished work-wise, and thought I would maybe talk a little bit about the remix.

Because my remixee? She has paid me a very high compliment. Yes. She likes the remix enough to be inspired by it, meaning a sequel, or remix of a remix of a canon AU, or something that might just turn into one of those Great Fannish Discussions. This, combined with synedochic's new 'play in my sandbox' community fic_commons makes me think we might just manage a mutual admiration society here one day.

the end. I need to go lie down now *shivers*. Migraines are almost easier when they are too nasty to handle at all; this "almost functional" thing is kind of pissing me off.

ETA: on the upside, I've announced the last few stories on some community boards, and updated my sidebar and fic post. There's more under the fanfic tag, actually, since I don't tend to feel ficlets belong in the fanfic archive post.

I totally thought it was the finale tonight. But it's just as well I got through the edits on this as the remix is eating my brain. Although from the title to the summary line I'm having trouble avoiding spoilers. Man! I never realized how much I was asking for when I demanded you people not spoil me.

I shall sum up the pre-program crash post:

1. I've been recc'd! I've been complimented! I've randomly gotten several bits of feedback on stories from 2005 and I LOVE IT.

1a. Also, I get a huge, satisfying kick out of being associated with Jaffa stories. I also solemnly promise to finish beta edits on the Teal'c Unending tag by the time the actual finale airs in the US.

2. *snip* RL whinge and why you guys have great timing and sometimes I don't *snip*

3. Present for you! The femslash snippet I wrote for lilyayl, who was so brave as to delurk for the friending meme last week. The promise had been that I didn't have a witty anecdote, or know you from Eve to associate you with a pairing or some such, that I'd make it up to you with a ficlet, or a completely fabricated anecdote.

So I wrote lilyayl Teyla/Kate, in a comment fic, pre-femslash and PG rated. This marks my second fic evar in SGA, people, and the first to not feature an SG-1 POV character! Go me, broadening my horizons! Also, OMG this feels narcissistic. How do other people deal with characters who share their name; ever *written* them?

Because then it would be raqs' birthday and I wouldn't be tardy. Of course, in my defense, I was road-tripping down the left coast and completely without internetz, which, we all know, is like a time void or something. It's totally a plausible defense.
