Got my tickets

Holy hell, it was an ordeal to get tickets to see this show on Broadway. But today it's mission accomplished! I'm seeing the matinee on Sept. 8, which was the first Saturday that had two seats together or something. I tried for over a week online with no luck (for two tickets at any price on any date!) and finally broke down over lunch and waited on hold with TicketBastard for a zillion years. But it's done now! I plunked down waaaaaaaay too much money, but I'm going to see them dominate that stage!

Any one, but no two.

I can honestly say I'd be satisfied with any of the remaining 6 contestants as Danny or Sandy. I will also add that I can't see any pairing as a couple. Collapse )

I'm glad to see Derek return to form, if not perfect. Maybe the dude just can't handle ballads? That would be bad, yes. But of the remaining Dannys, he's the one that has the leader quality, the attitude, and the machismo. Unfortunately, he also needs the vocals.

Max has the vocals, and the acting. He has delivered on everything the judges have asked. He is very much the unconventional Danny, and that may be the ticket-seller David Ian is looking for. It would be nice to see someone who isn't full of himself, either.

Austin is my least favorite of the remaining Dannys, but has the strongest vocals. He has the machismo, but it definitely goes overboard. He over-emotes with his face, but he's not being cast in a movie, he'll be on a stage with his audience dozens of yards away. He has the attitude and the leader quality, I think Austin just grates on me, personally. I am not rooting for him, but he could do it.

Ashley... I rooted for her from the beginnng. Did anyone else notice she was the only contestant withOUT the From Home Footage? That made me extremely sad for her, and I feel like pulling for her all the more. She has had her mis-steps along the way, and Laura is outshining her in the past few weeks. But I thinks he fits the typical Sandy role.

Laura. I think Laura will win, if she continues her trend (and America votes appropriately, not based on personality). Not to say Laura has anything going against her, peronally, but David Ian is a very brave man to play with his money this way. Laura has out-sung and out-acted everyone in her last 3 weeks. She definitely came from behind, because her remaining opponents were cast early front-runners.

Allie is my least favorite of the three, and it's only the 'green' factor that I don't like. I see where everyone else is coming from, in this community, when they say they don't like her. I just don't happen to agree. I would have saved Kathleen instead of her, but c'est la vie. I think Allie could do it, and be a ticket-seller. Like Ashley, she looks the part, and she has the voice.

As for last week's show... I TiVO it every week because I work on Sunday nights. This is the only show I've saved, I will admit. My favorite parts of most of the shows has been the ensemble pieces. "All That Jazz" was completely HOT!! I wanted to cast them all in Chicago right then and there. I saved this show on my TiVO just to watch that performance again and again.

I can't wait for tomorrow night's episode

Hi. Is this community still active? I haven't been watching this show regularly, but I will be from now on, especially after Max's performance last week. I'm a big Grease fan and was in a community theater production in high school (oh so long ago), so I thought I'd love the show. I saw the band camp Grease Academy episode when it first aired and liked Max immediately but was kind of *meh* about the show as a whole. I couldn't bring myself to care about anyone but him, and ceratinly none of the Sandy's (other than hating Kathleen's voice and laughing at the idea of Austin as a ladies man). To be honest, I'm just not much into reality TV except for Project Runway.

I skipped a bunch of episodes and then checked back in for the hell of it just to see who was still around. I happened to catch the one where Max sang "Summer of '69" and was glad to see people starting to get what I saw in him from the beginning. Maybe it's because of an American Idol effect or that people don't really understand theater and costuming and acting? I don't know. I just have faith that if someone is a good actor, singer, and dancer (in that order of importance), then with a good costumer and director, he can play the part. I caught last week's episode with "Greased Lightnin" (which didn't change my opinion of Austin) and Max killed on "Hard to Handle."

So now I'm totally sucked in. I'd be ok with Laura or Ashley being Sandy (Laura in general, but Max and Ashley seemed to have good chemistry), and I think Allie seems pretty vacuous, but I still don't care too much. I feel very strongly that Max is the only Danny on that show. If I had to pick another, I'd say Derek, but I wouldn't want to put my money on the line with his vocal issues! I'm a Slacker Backer all the way. I even had to go on YouTube and watch all the Max clips there! I even *gasp* voted last week. I can't wait for tomorrow's episode to see who they're getting rid of.

If Max wins, I'll probably drive down to NYC and see the show. If not, forget it.

Sandy episode with Frankie Avalon

I'm finally getting around to doing a post about this past show. It sure was interesting...and depressing. Who knew NONE OF THE GIRLS CAN ACT? Just kidding, but really, the acting was fairly disappointing this week. I won't put anything behind a cut, since hopefully everyone has had a chance to see the episode, even in Bravo reruns.

Random, vapid episode commentary:

- Denise Van Outen's tracks are looking pretty wrecked. Man, I hope extensions go out of style soon, because women on t.v. can't even be bothered to take care of theirs. :P
- Well, now we know none of these girls can play Rizzo.
- Poor Frankie Avalon doesn't get to be a judge? Lame.
- Obviously Ashley and Jason had a "thing" -- too bad he's gone, because it might have made the "chemistry" episode a little more interesting!
- I can't believe Chad's in the bottom two below Derek. And hey, America, why all the Kathleen hate? Share the hate, people!
- I love the guys as backup dancers, especially when they have to lie on top of each other. Heh.
- Allie, honey, you should have known that tube top was gonna fall down. That's what tube tops DO. And this song is way too weird for you. I loves me some Bjork, but you pretty much ruined the wacky feel of the song.
- Wow, Billy Bush is the king of inappropriate comments. Yes, Allie should have used double sided tape, but I don't want to know how *you* know *Denise* uses it.
- Who the heck cuts these songs down? Why did "Fever" end on "Daddy, won't you treat him right?" It's like ending "The Star Spangled Banner" on "The bombs bursting in air" or something.
- Kathleen, this isn't American Idol, and you can't do runs, nor would you want to as Sandy...please keep singing cheesy white girl songs and you'll be fine.
- The stairs. All through "Beauty School Dropout" I kept having visions of Frankie Avalon falling down them. And I know these girls are supposed to be different colored versions of Frenchy, but they look more like they belong at a cosplay convention.

My favorite Sandys this week:

1) Kathleen. ("Let's Hear it for the Boy") Yes, her song was absolutely dismal this week, but the girl can ACT, and she's the only one who can with any sort of depth, apparently. Unless the rest of these girls get some awesome training, like, yesterday, Kathleen is still my #1 pick (and apparently, America's least favorite. Wonderful!) I figured out why everyone thinks she's too mature...it's her singing voice. If she could just put on a "character" voice that's sweeter and younger, she could actually have a chance at winning.

2) Laura. ("Fever") And I regret saying it, because something about her still irks me. She's just too typical. There's nothing compelling or spontaneous about her, like Olivia Newton-John. BUT...she looks right, she can act well enough, she can sing well enough, and she can pull of sweet and sexy (well, the sexy is negotiable). So she's basically better, in general, than my #s 3 and 4.

3) Ashley. ("These Boots Were Made for Walkin'") Oh, Ashley! Why do you suck at acting? Watching her tonight was like watching ... eh, bad, bad high school theatre, with all the gasps and posturing. She needs to get out of one-dimension land. I still LOVE her personality and love watching her perform more than any of the other girls. She just needs to ditch the fakeness, pronto. If she does that, she WILL win.

4) Allie. ("It's Oh So Quiet") Allie, you are as bad of an actress as Ashley but with none of her redeeming qualities. Allie is, plainly, not right for this role. The acting in all of the numbers she was in was just awful. I think Allie's adorable, but she's way too green for this, far more than any of the other girls.

As for the ejectees...the one who left this week probably should have (even though I still liked Kate better than Allie). Isn't it creepy how these two showed no emotion at the end? (shiver) Next week, we'll probably say goodbye to Kathleen, who shouldn't be the one going. At least we will likely get to see the guys sing "Greased Lightning," which you know is gonna be HOT.

Sunday's show

Anyone got any thoughts on the show this past Sunday? I'm going to make a post with my thoughts later tonight, but was wondering what you guys thought.

I also signed tizzy_lish and myself up on the list to go see the live tapings. I hope we get to go, even though I'll be like, twice as old as the average audience member. :)
