Diego Cervantes-Knox, MBA, FCMA shared thisAfter my first week back, I have been reflecting this weekend on the past few months and the time spent across Latin America. Over seven weeks, across five locations, we delivered 18 milestones, three major changes, six key improvements and 14 supplier sessions focused on enhancing services and increasing the pace of change. A major milestone has been modernising our technology infrastructure so we can deliver change faster, reduce reliance on legacy applications and build a more scalable, cost-efficient platform for the business. We also moved other initiatives into readiness and pre-go-live stages, helping us standardise, strengthen and scale our operating model as the business continues to grow. What stood out most was the energy, ownership and collaboration across the region. Thank you to the teams who welcomed me, challenged thinking, shared ideas and kept momentum high. Transformation only succeeds when every part of the value chain moves with purpose, accountability and pace — and when every voice contributes to the journey. Special thanks to the technology, finance, operations and claims teams — with a special shout-out to Nick Bonello, Jose Garcia and Maria Jose Barrera. Diego Cervantes-Knox, MBA, FCMA shared thisThis weekend, a pattern stood out from several mentoring and coaching conversations: under pressure, leadership style stops being a preference and becomes an operating system — pressure does not change leaders, it reveals them. In recent weeks, I have supported students from Lincoln, King’s and other final-year cohorts, as well as colleagues and associate analysts at the Big 4. I do it because I genuinely enjoy seeing people grow — and because I benefited from mentors who gave me their time when it mattered. A consistent theme emerged: confidence under pressure, impostor syndrome, and the need to believe that stepping forward is part of leadership — even before you feel fully ready. One comment stayed with me: “The first step to lead is to believe that I am leading.” It reinforced something I have seen and experienced across government, defence, listed corporates and private equity: when pressure rises, the best leaders do not tighten control — they increase clarity, coaching, and trust. That is at the heart of “Serve to Lead”, and it is why the environments where I have grown the most — and seen enterprise value compound — were shaped by leaders who lead through service. Both seasons extend through to 30 November and continue to represent one of the most important catastrophe exposure periods for the insurance and reinsurance market across Latin America and the Caribbean. Early forecasts for 2026 suggest a potentially more moderate Atlantic season compared with recent years, supported by the possible development of El Niño conditions and increased wind shear. However, the market has repeatedly demonstrated that hurricane activity should not be assessed solely by the number of named storms, but rather by the severity, trajectory and concentration of landfall events. The 2026 naming lists will begin with Amanda, Boris, Cristina and Douglas in the Pacific, and Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal and Dolly in the Atlantic hurricane season. For Property & Engineering Facultative underwriting, this remains a critical period for exposure management, CAT modelling discipline and portfolio aggregation monitoring, particularly in highly exposed coastal territories throughout Latam and the Caribbean. Taking place at Guy’s Cancer Centre, the visit formed part of the 300th anniversary celebrations of Guy’s Hospital. His Majesty, who is Royal Patron of King’s College London, met with members of our senior leadership, academics and PhD students who are pushing the boundaries of cancer research – from diagnosis to treatment.
