FAQ & Support

Everything you need to know about Grit Blender. Can't find your answer? Reach out to us directly.

Installation

Download the installer for your platform from the Downloads page and follow the on-screen instructions. The installer places the plugin in the correct directories for all supported formats:

macOS:

  • ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/ for CLAP
  • ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ for VST3
  • ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ for AU

Windows: CLAP and VST3 are placed in the standard Common Files plugin directories.

Linux: Extract the archive and copy the CLAP file to ~/.clap/ and/or the VST3 folder to ~/.vst3/.

After installation, restart your DAW and rescan your plugin folders if necessary. Grit Blender should appear in your plugin list.

No. The installer will overwrite the previous version automatically. Your presets and license file will be preserved.

Activation

After purchasing Grit Blender, you will receive a license key file (.ubkeyfile) via email. To activate:

  1. Download your .ubkeyfile from your account or the email you received after purchase.
  2. Open Grit Blender in your DAW and click the Activate button.
  3. Select your .ubkeyfile in the file browser — done.

That's it. No internet connection required, no activation servers, no challenge-response codes.

Your keyfile is always available in your account dashboard — you don't need the email to get started. Log in, go to My Licenses, and download your .ubkeyfile directly.

If you don’t have an account yet, one was created for you automatically at purchase. Your login credentials (email and temporary password) are in your purchase confirmation email. If you can’t find it, use the Forgot Password link on the login page to set a new password.

Some email providers (particularly certain European and corporate domains) occasionally filter our emails. If you still can't find it, check your spam folder or contact us and we'll sort it out right away.

When you purchase a plugin, an account is automatically created using the email you used at checkout. Your login credentials (email and temporary password) are included in your purchase confirmation email — check your inbox (and spam folder).

If you try to register with that same email, the site will say it’s already in use — that’s because your account already exists. Simply use the Login page instead, or click Forgot Password to set a new one.

Locked out? After several login attempts, the site locks you out for 15 minutes as a security measure. Wait it out, then use Forgot Password to reset your credentials. If you’re still stuck, contact us and we’ll get you sorted right away.

Your license covers up to 3 machines that you personally own and use. For example, a studio desktop, a laptop for live performance, and a backup machine. Simply copy the .ubkeyfile to each computer.

Not for core functionality. All audio processing and license validation happen entirely offline. An optional update checker pings our server on launch to notify you of new versions, and the optional anonymous telemetry sends a tiny report when the plugin loads. Both features can be disabled in the About dialog — and even without internet, the plugin works exactly the same.

Compatibility

Grit Blender works with any DAW that supports CLAP, VST3, or AU plugins. Note that Pro Tools uses its own AAX format, which is not supported — however, third-party VST wrappers can be used as a workaround.

  • macOS: 10.13 (High Sierra) or later. Universal Binary — runs natively on Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4).
  • Windows: 10 or later (64-bit).
  • Linux: 64-bit. Provided as-is, tested by the community. Report issues via our contact page.

Yes. Grit Blender is built with low-latency operation in mind and works well in live performance setups. MIDI key track allows real-time control of saturation parameters from your MIDI controller or keyboard.

License

Only if you opt in. On first launch, a small popup asks if you’d like to help improve the plugin by sending anonymous usage data. If you click “Sure, happy to help”, the plugin sends an extremely small anonymous report each time it loads — smaller than a single MIDI note. This includes basic info like which plugin format is used (AU/VST3/CLAP) and feature usage counts. No personal data, no audio data, no project names — nothing that could identify you.

If you click “No thanks” (or just close the popup), nothing is ever sent. You can change your mind at any time in the About dialog’s Settings section. License validation is always local — no activation servers, no internet check required.

The price shown on the site is the base price before tax. Depending on your location, sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout by Paddle, the payment provider. This is the same as any online purchase — the exact amount depends on your local tax regulations.

All purchases include a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied for any reason, you can request a full refund within 30 days of your purchase — no questions asked. Go to paddle.net, enter the email you used at checkout, and follow the steps to request a refund. The process is handled entirely by Paddle and typically takes 3–5 business days for card payments. Full details are in our Refund Policy.

If you’d like to share why the plugin didn’t meet your expectations, feel free to contact us — your feedback helps us improve.

Diagnostic & Support

The fastest way to get help is to use the UB DSP Diagnostic Tool. You can access it in two ways:

  • Open the About dialog in Grit Blender and click “Plugin not working? Run diagnostic” at the bottom.
  • Go directly to the Diagnostic Tool page on our website.

The diagnostic tool is a small standalone application that checks your system configuration, scans for all installed UB DSP plugins (versions, formats, locations), and can send a complete report to our support team. This gives us all the information we need to help you quickly.

It’s a free standalone application available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It gathers information about your system (OS, CPU, RAM, audio hardware) and scans the standard plugin directories for UB DSP plugins. You can then enter your email and send the report directly to UB DSP support. The tool also has a command-line mode for advanced users. Read the Diagnostic Tool manual for full details.

General

Yes. You can download the trial version from the Downloads page. The trial includes the full feature set and full sound quality so you can properly evaluate the plugin before purchasing. The only limitation is a brief 2-second silence every 40 seconds — enough to prevent production use but not enough to get in the way of evaluating the tone.

Grit Blender is the first release from UB DSP, but it will not be the last. Future plugins are in development, each following the same principles: artisan quality, CLAP-first, and no intrusive DRM. Follow the blog for updates.
