About this typeface
ENG Mercè is a revival project based on Tages-Antiqua (known as Antigua Mercedes in Barcelona), a typeface designed and cut by Louis Hoell in 1914 for the Flinsch foundry in Offenbach am Main. This revival draws from a design heavily influenced by the mainstream Art Nouveau styles of early 20th-century Europe. As a result, both Tages-Antiqua and Mercè feature wide characters, uneven vertical proportions, and the timeless essence of classic typography. Mercè is a reinterpretation that preserves the spirit of Hoell’s original design while introducing a more elegant, contrasted, and transitional model, paying tribute to the typeface after 109 years since its creation.
ESP Mercè es un proyecto de recuperación basado en Tages-Antiqua (conocida en Barcelona como Antigua Mercedes), una tipografía diseñada y grabada por Louis Hoell en 1914 para la fundición Flinsch en Offenbach am Main. Esta recuperación se inspira en un diseño fuertemente influenciado por las corrientes predominantes del Art Nouveau europeo a principios del siglo XX. Por ello, tanto Tages-Antiqua como Mercè presentan caracteres anchos, proporciones verticales desiguales y la esencia atemporal de las proporciones clásicas. Mercè es una reinterpretación que conserva el espíritu del diseño original de Hoell, ofreciendo un modelo más elegante, con mayor contraste y un estilo transicional, rindiendo homenaje a la tipografía tras 109 años de su creación.
CAT Mercè és un projecte de recuperació basat en Tages-Antiqua (coneguda a Barcelona com a Antigua Mercedes), una tipografia dissenyada i gravada per Louis Hoell el 1914 per a la fundició Flinsch a Offenbach am Main. Aquesta recuperació s’inspira en un disseny fortament influenciat pels corrents principals de l’Art Nouveau europeu a principis del segle XX. Per això, tant Tages-Antiqua com Mercè presenten caràcters amples, proporcions verticals desiguals i l’essència atemporal de les proporcions clàssiques. Mercè és una reinterpretació que conserva l’esperit del disseny original de Hoell, oferint un model més elegant, amb més contrast i un estil transicional, fent un homenatge a la tipografia després de 109 anys de la seva creació.
