Vampirina: Teenage Vampire (Series)
The Ultimate Fang-Girl
S-L-A-Y, watch me shine, shine, shine!

Vampirina: Teenage Vampire is a Disney Channel Kid Com based on the Vampirina book series and the 2017 Disney Junior show of the same name that came out on September 12, 2025. The show follows Vampirina Hauntley, nicknamed Vee, as she attends a performing arts school after moving from Transylvania, and has to hide the fact that she's also a vampire after learning of descendants of Van Helsing who have become vampire hunters. Vee ends up befriending her best friend and roommate, Sophie, who becomes her songwriting partner, but her other friend, Elijah, is hiding a secret of his own, being a descendant of Van Helsing himself.

Tropes associated with the show:

  • Adaptational Location Change: The original book and TV show were set in a bed and breakfast hotel, the Scare B&B. However, this series is set in a boarding school.
  • Adapted Out: Gregoria, Poppy, Bridget and Edgar from the animated series are completely absent in the live action series.
  • Against the Grain: Elijah isn't into the vampire hunting business as much as his mother and sister are, who want him to carry on the Van Helsing family history of vampire hunting. He's reluctant to fight Vee when he discovers she's a vampire and therefore his family's sworn enemy, and Vee also feels the same way about him. They both agree to stay friends and keep each others' secret.
  • Age Lift:
    • As per the title, Vampirina is a teenager rather than a child in this series.
    • Demi is a child in the series rather than a childlike adult.
  • Alpha Bitch: Megan, the head of the Spotlights girl squad, demands everything go her way and won't let the rest of the Spotlight members speak.
  • Audience Shift: This is a Disney Channel show, thus clearly aiming for an older audience compared to the original book and TV show, which aired on Disney Jr.
  • Big Damn Hug: The ending of "First Vampire Friend" sees Vee and and temporarily-vampirized Britney sharing a hug before Britney turns back into a mortal.
  • Boarding School: Wilson Hall Academy for the Arts, the school Vee attends and where most of the show takes place.
  • Booing Crowd: The first episode opens with Vee having a nightmare where she's performing onstage, and gets booed when she reveals that she's a vampire.
  • Christmas Episode: The episode "First Holiday" takes place on Christmas.
  • Crossover: The episode "First Heartbeat" is a crossover episode with Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, where Billie makes a guest appearance and she and Vee are old friends. In fact, vampires were established to exist as far back as the original Wizards of Waverly Place.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Britney starts off as Vee's rival at Wilson Hall, but mellows out over time.
  • Dream Intro: The first episode begins with Vee having a nightmare where she reveals her identity at a concert and gets booed by the audience.
  • Everyone Can See It: Vee Hauntley and Elijah Van Helsing Summers make it obvious that they really like each other, even Billie from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place can tell they really like each other, even if she’s spent most her life alone and she doesn't even go to Wilson Hall.
  • Extreme Doormat: The pilot establishes that Sophie is so incapable of standing up for herself that she says "yes" to anything asked of her before even thinking. She grows out of it after Vee encourages her it's okay to say "no".
  • Fantastic Racism: Vampires against mortals, and clearly see them as inferior. With the Van Helsings, the feeling is mutual.
  • First Day of School Episode: "First Year to Watch" focuses on Vee's first day at Wilson Hall.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Elijah wants to focus more on school and dancing instead of the family "business" of vampire hunting, unlike his mother and sister. He also prefers hip hop, rap, and pop instead of classical music, which his mother sent him to school to learn.
  • Forbidden Love: Between Vee Hauntley, a Vampire, and Elijah Van Helsing Summers, who comes from a family of Vampire Hunters, the Van Helsing family, who are mortal enemies with Vampires.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Vee seems to be quite friendly even though she's a vampire.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Wilson Hall Academy for the Arts is often abbreviated as W.H.A.A.
  • Glowing Eyes: Vee gets glowing violet eyes whenever she uses her strongest powers or gets angered enough.
  • Grew a Spine: Thanks to Vee's help in the first episode, Sophie learns how to stand up for herself and says no to Britney.
  • Halloween Episode: The episode "First Halloween" takes place on Halloween.
  • Hero Antagonist: The Van Helsings are portrayed as the traditional heroic vampire hunters who while misguided, want to protect humanity from vampires, but they are a threat to Vee and her family.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: Vee can mind control others to do what she wants through eye contact.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every episode title starts with the word "First...", as every episode has Vee experience a "first".
  • In Name Only: Aside from a small handful of characters with similar names, this series is completely independent from the book and the animated series. Most of the characters are completely different, and the few characters who are from the previous versions have drastically altered personalities.
  • Let's Duet: The most notable one being “Maybe I’m Falling”, between Vee and Elijah as they confront their feelings for each other.
  • Live-Action Adaptation: Unlike the previous series, which was CGI, this one is in live action, which the trailer (and social media posts from Disney Channel and Disney Jr.) emphasizes.
  • The Masquerade: Vampires live among humans, and there's a secret war between the human vampire hunters, and the vampires, who are mortal enemies.
  • Meaningful Name: Van Helsing is a nod to the eponymous vampire hunter who was Dracula's mortal enemy.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Millie Eyelash being a reference to Billie Eilish.
  • Odd Friendship: They both won't call it friendship, but ghost boy Demi and Locked Out of the Loop, Lovable Alpha Bitch Britney begin hanging out with each other when they realize they both have singing talents that complement each other, with Demi joining Britney's acapella group.
  • Red Herring: In the first episode, Demi notices Britney wearing the same silver ring as the Van Helsings and tries continuously to warn Vee, but it turns out to be a class ring, and Demi misreads the initials on the side, which say "WH" instead of "VH". But then, when Elijah goes to his dorm in the final scene, he takes out a necklace with the real VH ring on it.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: In the first episode, Demi thinks there's a Van Helsing inside the school because Britney has a ring with "WH" on it, and Demi mistook it for the "VH" in the rings the Van Helsings are known for wearing. While Britney isn't a Van Helsing, it's revealed at the end of the episode that Elijah is.
  • Secret Identity: Vee is hiding the fact that she's a vampire, while Elijah has to hide his identity as a Van Helsing.
  • Secret-Keeper: Sophie and Elijah are the only human students who know Vee is a vampire and Demi is a ghost so far. And they both know Billie is a wizard too.
    • In "First Full Vampire", Elijah's sister Moriah learns Vee is a vampire too and initially follows her to kill her, but overhears Vee risking her own life to stop another vampire Lucien from harming humans to gain more power. Realizing that not all vampires are malevolent creatures like her family history was taught, along with the fact Vee was also protecting Elijah, Moriah tells Vee she'll keep her secret. She also shouts out to Demi she recognizes he was the ghost boy she tried to capture.
  • Shared Universe: Billie Russo appears in the show, indicating it takes place in the same universe as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place and, by extension, Wizards of Waverly Place, which makes sense as both shows have supernatural elements, and vampires in this series are rather consistent with how Vampires in Wizards of Waverly Place were portrayed.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In "First Halloween", Vee's end pose to the dance "The Fangfoot Stomp" resembles the transformation pose of Kamen Rider Kuuga.
    • The song Vee plays in her guitar at the beginning of "'First Pet" sounds like the start of the chorus of "Take Me Away" from Freaky Friday (2003), albeit slower.
  • Status Quo Is God: In "First Vampire Friend", Britney is accidentally turned into a vampire and in the process learns that Vee is a vampire. As they wait for the others to concoct an antidote to turn Britney back into a mortal, the two girls actually put aside their differences and genuinely bond with each other. Alas, it turns out that the antidote erases Brtiney's memories of her time as a vampire, and thus she and Vee return to being rivals at the end of the episode.
  • Weakened by the Light: Sunlight would kill a vampire, but even if they were protected from it, sunlight would put a crimp on their vampire powers.
  • White-and-Grey Morality: The conflict between the Van Helsings and the Vampires is this. The Van Helsings border on being Hero Antagonists, but they are as "good" as they get in that they just want to keep humanity safe from vampires, even if misguided. The vampires of course fall squarely on the grey side, as they just want to survive and avoid persecution from the Van Helsings, but being Vampires, they are likely more willing to do questionable things to survive. In fact, if a vampire becomes mortal, let's just say the Vampire council will literally imprison the newly-transformed mortal, or do tests that could potentially get them killed as mortals.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Until "First Villain", Vee had a crippling fear of pencils, because they reminded her of wooden stakes used to kill vampires.
  • Your Costume Needs Work: Vee fails to win "Best Vampire" in the Halloween costume contest, despite being an actual vampire.
