Note 2: In 1928, at age eighteen, Katter sought further affirmation of his gender identity through acquiring a document known as a transvestite pass (German: Transvestitenschein). This document, issued by the governments of the German Empire and the Weimar Republic, identified its carrier as a transvestite, and allowed them to present in a way that may not have aligned with their assigned sex at birth.
