She/her (they/them fine, too) • disabled, queer, artsy-craftsy, neurodivergent zillennial • multifandom • covid-conscious • intersectional or bust

You may be looking for my side blog, @thegentlesurvive , which is the bouba to this blog’s kiki (not that different, except there’s a lot more swiftie shit, non-fandom art, and the mediocre jokes are in cursive).

>Predominately Black led piece of media becomes popular.

>Among the characters there are one or two White characters with minor and/or distinctly antagonistic roles.

>White tumblr users focus entirely on said White characters.

>Tag of Black led piece of media is filled with posts about White character(s)

>Rinse. Repeat.

Rinse. Repeat

[ ID from Alt: a reply that reads: Except youre completely ignoring that villains are hot to queers because theyre gay coded in Hollywood. And idk if you've been on tumblr before... / End ID ]

the line of thinking from 'many villains have been queer coded (due to homophobia)' to 'being a villain is queer coded' is so fucking dismal. you people do not think with your brains

has anybody else noticed that the classic sci fi novel Don’t Create The Torment Nexus features a Torment Nexus? that’s pretty problematic of the author

the main character eventually recognizes the torment nexus is bad but by that point I had already stopped reading the book because I don't condone the torment nexus, the narrative really should've condemned it outright :/

“you support gay rights so you must be gay”

i support animal rights do i look like a fucking alpaca to you

turns out i am gay

holy shit how’d this alpaca learn how to type

Diversity win! The alpaca is gay!

he was a llama

a llama?! he’s supposed to be dead!

Three things:

  1. I am glad that in 2026 I find out about twitter from tumblr.
  2. I did not "dance around" the manic pixie dream girl. I sought to write books exposing the dangerous lie that a person is more than a person. The romanticization (mostly by boys) of the Romantic Other is extremely dangerous, and that was a central theme of my first two books. If people read them as MPDG books, then I failed at my first and most fundamental task and I'm sorry.
  3. I did not build the hospital. Nerdfighteria paid for a hospital that Sierra Leoneans built. We paid for the hospital partly through Hank and I donating money, but mostly thanks to the thousands of people who pay for the hospital every month and my brother's stupid but brilliant idea to create Netflix For Socks.

A mole found its way into our house somehow and our cat has NO IDEA what to do about it.

Come to think of it, I also have no idea what to do about it.

If we're being really honest, the mole was also unclear of her motives, so I think we were all a bit confused.

I love when trauma makes characters messy. I love when characters don't know how to show love. I love when they lash out. I love when they're vile and break down. I love characters who aren't perfect victims. I love when stories don't excuse behaviour but allow you to understand it

i am a SUCKER for characters who start out as copies of other characters but eventually become their own people, their own identities, completely different from who they once reflected

my publisher: Good morning! Huh did you advertise for the pre-sale yesterday? Because we launched twelve hours ago and we already made sales!

me: yeah, i posted on tumblr

publisher: .........tumblr?

me: that's where the gays are.

(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western)

update

publisher: And what is your marketing strategy on... tumblr?

me: idk, i shitpost at 2am?

publisher: .....and it works?

me: depends on what the gays find funny at that point in time.

publisher: Could I have a link to your tumblr?

me: .......absolutely not.

(link to Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a sapphic western where 50 year old women kiss and murder)

update!

publisher: I've been looking into tumblr, have you thought of using Blaze to promote your book?

me: NO

publisher: But it seems like an efficient way to get this in front of more eyes-

me: people on tumblr hate Blaze.

publisher: There is no algorithm and you can't pay to promote a post? I don't understand how anyone advertises anything on tumblr.

me: That's the best part. They don't. They can't.

(trying to make him understand that we do not control the attention. We just have to show something shiny and gay enough and if people are interested, they'll reblog.)

(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a deconstruction of the colonialist cowboy mythos dressed up as a sapphic romance.)

update with picture of a pet!

This is Cosmos, my publisher's dog.

He barks at my publisher's phone notifications. So every time a book is sold, Cosmos barks.

It's been days.

I think you guys would love to know that when you buy a book, a dog barks in Vancouver, Canada.

(Mrs. Victoria buys a brothel, a story where women help women bury the body of your abusive husband.)

Well, that’s one book waiting for me when I get back home! Also, please tell your publisher Cosmos is the goodest dog 💖
