Following the passing of the motion, an open statement signed by 1,877 people as of Friday, titled A Christian Declaration Against Kairos II and led by Regan King, pastor of The Angel Church in Islington, London, called on churches to reject the document. “It is our conviction that Kairos II is not in the interests of Palestinian Christians and only serves to hinder the cause of peace,” the letter read. “The document falsely and without substantiation accuses Israel of genocide in relation to its war on Hamas and terror factions in Gaza to rescue hostages and destroy Hamas’ capabilities,” it added.

Learned another word: anathema /əˈnaθəmə/ I. noun
- [mass noun] — something or someone that one vehemently dislikes e.g. racial hatred was anathema to her.
- formal curse by a pope or a council of the Church, excommunicating a person or denouncing a doctrine. E.G.: the pope laid special emphasis on the second of these anathemas.
- 3. ‹literary› a strong curse. E.g.: the sergeant clutched the ruined communicator, muttering anathemas.
origin: early 16th cent.: from ecclesiastical Latin, ‘excommunicated person, excommunication’, from Greek anathema ‘thing dedicated’, (later) ‘thing devoted to evil, accursed thing’, from anatithenai ‘to set up’.

ALL SLAVE-KEEPERS That keep the Innocent in Bondage: APOSTATES
Pretending to lay Claim to the Pure & Holy Christian Religion; of what Congregation so ever; but especially in their Ministers, by whose example the filthy Leprosy and Apostacy is spread far and near; it is a notorious Sin, which many of the true Friends of Christ, and his pure Truth, called Quakers, has been for many Years, and still are concern'd to write and bear Testimony against; as a Practice so gross & hurtful to Religion, and destructive to Government, beyond what Words can set forth, or can be declared of by Men or Angels, and yet lived in by Ministers and Magistrates in America.
The Leaders of the People cause them to Err.
Written for a General Service, by him that truly and sincerely desires the present and eternal Welfare and Happiness of all Mankind, all the World over, of all Colours, and Nations, as his own Soul; BENJAMIN LAY.

Learned another word: antediluvian /ˌantɪdɪˈluːvɪən/ adjective
- of or belonging to the time before the biblical Flood e.g. gigantic bones of antediluvian animals.
- <chiefly humorous› ridiculously old-fashioned. E.G. they maintain antediluvian sex-role stereotypes.
origin: mid 17th cent.: from ante- + Latin diluvium ‘deluge’ + -an.
After a year of trying very hard every day not to transition, trying to isolate, control, and obliterate the desire to pursue it, giving up the idea that I could manage myself out of my own body came as such a relief. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). But I had to desire rest for my soul more than desired to cling to cis-ness, and I fought that exchange every step of the way. It was too late, I was both too young and too old, I should have said something sooner, it would not work for me the way it worked for other people, I would lose my family, I would be reneging on the promise my body had made to others, I would humiliate myself, I needed the heavy yoke, deserved it, owed it to the people in my life to go on carrying it; I did not believe an easy yoke existed for me.

by the time you’ve said “now, I hate the Catholic Church as much as anyone else, but you have to admit […]”, before effusive praise for the dozenth time in a month, it sorts of starts to lose a bit of weight as a qualification
One of the functions of the Black church - despite its many many MANY problems - is that it’s one of the only places on this Earth where you can find (English speaking) Black seven year olds gaining public speaking experience reciting English verse in the style of King James I of England.
Children who know how to say ‘he that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty’ are learning how the rhythm of English sounds. Churchy Black children (especially Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals and Anglicans) can have a very declarative way of speaking that only comes of listening to old black people do that old style praying, where it goes sort of sing songy. Idk how to describe it.
(I am not a Muslim but I have noticed similar things with Muslim people. When I was in my masters program, the best students were the Senegalese men who had been memorising Quran since they could crawl.)
Anyway I think as many in our generations move away from church we need to find a way to replace these mechanisms of parallel teaching. Sunday school was like actual school in many ways. Kids who didn’t learn phonetics at school could learn it in church. You get low stakes public speaking and presentation experience. Event planning.
Also many amazing Black vocalists we had before the 2010s came up through the Black church(es). They aren’t doing that no more and that’s why the charts sound the way they do lol. Kids who have no instruments at home can learn drums, sax, trombone, piano etc at church. For free! Amazing live music for free! The shouting and rolling and tongues and carrying on every Sunday is what people now pay somatic therapists for and you got it for free at church.
But Many of us not going to church for good reason! I love praise and worship. I love to shout and bawl fi God. but the patriarchal bs, Zionism, outright thievery, rank hypocrisy, deception, political machinations, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and paedophilia I observed in the church means I don’t go any more. A lot of these pastors are crooks! Many are human traffickers!
and the church is filled and been filled with predators who are hunting for victims. And the church runs on women’s labour thats just expected because of patriarchal teachings. The benefits of church do not out weigh the harms and that’s why numbers are dwindling.
