I wonder about whether CombatSecUnits are really all that dangerous as MB believes them to be. Not in terms of ability but in terms of being more “evil” and willfully dangerous than regular SecUnits.

A lot of the stuff that MB believes is just not accurate. It also thinks that all rogues are a huge threat. And it repeatedly claims that even non-rogue units are so so dangerous that they can’t even be allowed to be transported in gunships (only maybe in cargo). And while any person with weapons build into their arms will be dangerous to a certain degree, SecUnits do not appear to be this dangerous at all. Not the rogue ones that show up in the stories but likely also not SecUnits in general. It wouldn’t make sense for the companies to continue using them if they regularly killed all the people.

Sure, that one CombatSecUnit in Exit Strategy told MB that all it wants is to kill MB, but I’m not convinced that this actually shows how dangerous CombatSecUnits are. Let’s be honest, if in one of the earlier stories, MB encountered a rogue unit, it would have tried to kill it, shoot-first-ask-questions-later-style. It talks like that in All Systems Red, when it initially believes that DeltFall might have been murdered by rogue units. It intends to kill those rogue units and even stresses that this is something that it wants to do.

So this CombatSecUnit on TranRollinHyfa might be in a similar position and it just wants to kill this evil, dangerous, no-good, rogue SecUnit that is making the port unsafe. (Of course, maybe it’s just an asshole, that is also possible)

It would kill half the 19-25 year olds online to realize "I can't help it I have trauma" is one of THE quintessential abuser excuses

Like there is a difference between "My trauma creates impulsive urges and has changed my instinctive reactions to be irrational, I need to relearn shit." vs "I'm traumatized so I Can't Help It and you're not allowed to expect better of me"

1. Trauma can be healed! It is our responsibility to do so in order to not hurt other people unfairly lashing out at them. It takes time. There can be things we're not ready to face yet. We need rest. Thats ok. The overall goal needs to be healing. Its also just miserable and unhelpful to your life to be stuck in trauma. It doesnt have to be a lifelong wound, it can become a scar.

2. Sometimes we genuinely arent in control of ourselves. Panic attack, flashback, meltdown, the nervous system cuts out the rational mind and reacts protectively. We are still responsible for what we do and say, and when we are back in control we still need to apologise and make it up to people.

Murderbot forging the way of being the first rogue secunit any of these humans have dealt with, dealing with all the ignorance and missteps and shit thrown at it just for Three to come in after and have a significantly easier time meshing itself in with the humans because of all the work that murderbot has done unwillingly and murderbot isn't upset about that not in the slightest why would you even suggest that its fine its not mad at all its fine

the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.
