Mutual Rapport: an ARTMB fanworks event – Unclaimed prompts now available

We know many of you have been looking forward to this, and we're pleased to announce that the list of remaining unclaimed prompts is now publicly available for the entire fandom.

We've also set up an AO3 collection where creators can post fills for these prompts. Please do check out the rules & FAQ for the new collection; and when you're done with that, proceed to review the list of prompts at your leisure.

As always, if you have any questions you can reach out to the mods through the tumblr askbox.

hikes are very good yes but a deluxe hike is when you are accompanied by a freak with niche nature knowledge. they’re like omg stop there’s a horned valerian varmint beetle here and then you both get to crouch down and look at a bug like :)

your fandom experience will be 100 times more enjoyable if you accept the fact that you do not own your blorbos. people will interpret your blorbos in ways you don’t approve of, people will write fics about your blorbos in ways you disagree with, people will involve your blorbos in ships that make you feel disgusted. BECAUSE YOUR BLORBOS ARE THEIR BLORBOS TOO. there is nothing you can do about that. and making a “call out post” against these people will just make you a bully who thinks harassing real people over thoughtcrimes and fictional characters is justified.

how people enjoy your blorbos and how they portray your blorbos in their fanfics, fan art, headcanons, edits are literally NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

the world does not revolve around you, and there will always be things that upset you. BUT the good news is that you literally don’t have to care or even acknowledge things that upset you at all. that’s what the block and mute buttons are for. you cannot control what other people do, even when it involves your blorbos, but you can curate your own internet experiences.

you can either be mad at strangers for the sake of fictional characters, or you can enjoy your fandom experience by focusing on the things YOU do enjoy.

everyone who is not currently in the process of moving please pause and take a moment to be grateful that you're not currently in the process of moving

jowls are normal double chin is normal stretch marks are normal armpit fat is normal. none of the things that tiktok and instagram are telling you to change are things you need to even consider changing. you can have a normal body, it will be okay

Rated G | Gen, Other | ART & Murderbot | Ambiguous

Fanfiction: One-shot | 2,254 words

«You feel unsettled,» ART said. Then, because it was an asshole, it followed that up with, «You also have eleven missed calls and twenty-two missed messages from your colleagues. I’ve informed them all that you needed a break from the talks and will be rejoining them tomorrow.» “You don’t know that,” I told it. “Maybe I’ll get sick of sitting out here with you and go back to the meeting room.” «You’re welcome to tell them that yourself.» ART was radiating a warm affection that made it hard to keep being annoyed with its presumptuousness. «I’ve also messaged Ayda that you’ll be joining her for dinner tonight.» “Has anyone ever told you that you’re too nosy for your own good?” Its affection turned distinctly lofty. «You should be grateful that I’ve decided to help you manage your life, you little shit.»
The war against the kaiju might be drawing to an end. A jaeger pilot discusses a nebulous future with its drift partner.

Think you know the creator? Leave your guesses in our guessing game form! Note: Some creators have chosen not to post anonymously. In such cases, you're still welcome to "guess" the creator and points will be awarded as usual.

If you enjoyed this fanwork, we encourage you to leave a comment and kudos on AO3, and reblog this post with some love for the creator in the tags.

This fanfiction was created by AO3 user Lohikäärme (Myxinidae)!

“but what if you abort the baby who’ll cure cancer?!” sir the baby who will cure cancer is an organic chemistry major who works at a Home Depot because you use AI to go through your resumes

"I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops." - Stephen Jay Gould, The Panda's Thumb: More Reflections in Natural History

at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you

at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.

at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly

at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.

at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.

At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.

time for important questions!

do you folks think that Murderbot is watching its media on an accelerated speed?? x2, x10, maybe even x50 -- it probably has the processing speed for that!

I think it does, bc with having a mind that's significantly faster than a human's, consuming information on human speed might be boring. and this would obv allow it to consume more media faster! but maybe it doesn't do that, bc then the emotional impact is not as big or smth, or maybe bc MB actually wants to stretch its media for longer, especially while it was still stuck with the company and was very bored

the only relevant canon line I can remember is "It’s downloaded seven hundred hours of entertainment programming since we landed" from ASR. 700h is not that much (~29 earth-days), but also MB might have had thousands of hours already in its storage, so it's hard to judge. let me know if I'm missing anything else from canon!

I think it can skim video or other things with accelerated speed (I'm pretty sure that's the intention with the footage in Fugitive Telemetry and Network Effect) but generally I don't think it speeds up its media watching, first because why bother if you're using it to pass time anyways, secondly we have bits like this

The process only took three minutes, just long enough to finish the scene of Lineages of the Sun I’d had to pause when Thiago had decided to get me shot. — (NE chp. 2)

where it seems pretty reasonable for a 1x speed watch of a series. I think that quote is the most obvious "real-time" one, not sure if there are any others but I don't think we have any source for "it's sped up" other than "Murderbot theoretically can watch it this way" lol

shit, that's a very damning quote! i have to concede my headcanon that it's watching media at accelerated speed then :C well, we coooooould still say that scene was actually 6min real-time, but that's just silly

i'd say it's still accelerating thru boring sections, like sex scenes and stuff. but yeah, doesn't look like it's doing this normally. damn

I don't know what I want. I said that at some point, I think. But it isn't that, it's that I don't want anyone to tell me what I want, or to make decisions for me. That's why I left you, Dr. Mensah, my favorite human. By the time you get this I'll be leaving Corporation Rim. Out of inventory and out of sight. Murderbot end message.
