Always blows my mind when a show ends and people are like, "oh, I'm going to miss these characters! I'm going to miss this fandom! I'm so sad it's over!"

The characters didn't go anywhere and now you get to enjoy them fully, with the entire context and understanding of their story! A show ending means it's time to get even more unhinged about The Character!

There are still people making art and fics for Kirk and Spock every single day. You don't have to throw your modern Blorbo in the trash the moment their final episode airs, you dork. Get out there and make transformative art about it, or share headcanons, or whatever else you were already having fun doing.

Please, dear gods, keep doing shit that's fun even if it isn't the trending hot topic. You need some whimsy as armor against this hell world.

Some of us are just fiction cucks, we don’t create.

The Pax Silica initaitive is a joint plan involving the participants such as the UK, US, Israel, the EU to secure rare earth minerals for the silicon supply chain. This plan will involve opening up huge swaths of the island of Luzon to mining and special economic zones, displacing farming communities and threatening the food and water security of thousands.

Primer on the initiative from Philippine social movements:

listen to me, this is so so important: you've gotta get used to really giving it your 60% as a default. like don't half-ass it necessarily but try not to go over 70% or so of an ass. you'll feel better and live a happier more fulfilled life, and on the rare occasions where you do need to lock the fuck in you'll be able to pull off bullshit that the sad miserable wretches giving it their 100% can never dream of, because they're busy draining themselves dry and you have energy reserves to spare.

But like… 105% *is* my 60%.

My instincts tell me to sacrifice everything to get the job done at any cost, even if the job is like… “so-and-so has an intern starting in two weeks”.

I have no ability to accept and appreciate undone work as valid and normal— in my head it’s entirely wrong! Its incomplete! It must be finished! Perfectly, and not just kinda sorta done!

And the more ragged i feel, the more I think i’m backed into the corner, the harder i double down on it too. No i don’t need help, i will get through this with sheer willpower, etc, blah blah, you’ve all heard (or even said) it before. The only apparent solution is to burn every candle i’ve got at both ends all at once.

All of this was entirely avoidable. None of this needed to happen, none of this was inevitable.

And now look at where we are, because of the dumbest fucking people in the history of the world.

40% of Americans don’t feel safe eating food we buy at the grocery store, and honestly that number is lower than it should be.

I will never forget and never forgive the people who did this to us. I will despise them for the rest of their lives.

A 25-year-old U.S. citizen was deported to Mexico by ICE after a traffic stop in Texas. His attorney says he had a U.S. birth certificate, Social Security card, and hospital records proving his citizenship, but agents refused to review them before deporting him.

Side note, what the fuck a WORKING Daewoo still kicking around in California in today’s age!?! I am shocked! This isn’t a “shit on the budget car company” post, i need you to understand: i was OBSESSED with Daewoo’s oh-so-short stateside foray when i was younger, I soooo wanted to buy one. Most people have never even heard of them, or even if they saw one they have long forgotten about it. And for some reason, they still take up GOBS of free real estate in my brain today, 25 years later, despite hardly selling a few units before they dustbinned them from US distribution/sale. So uh… wow. It’s almost like seeing a ghost or a long lost acquaintance you were SURE was dead.

Even though Terry Tao has been saying for months that "AI in mathematics is the real deal", it was a little slow to percolate. But now that Fable and Sol are out, several big AI results were delivered on back-to-back days and it seems like math is about to have its own Claude Code moment where the whole field collectively realizes over a period of days that the game has changed. My condolences to them, it's kind of traumatizing but hopefully you come out the other side intact. Some people do, I'm still not sure if I'm one of them.

This is what I mean by "traumatizing". Either you get through this phase or you don't but we should probably have a plan for what to do if this happens to the entire economy all at once instead of one profession at a time.

Woof. I guess I should feel lucky that there is such a clear roadmap from managing IT departments and users; to building governance around IT departments, users, and their AI keys.

...well, at least until they destroy the legal profession and judicial system. Once there's no threat of being sued, and the government is captured, then I suppose it'll be time to sweep all the IT governance structures into the trash - we prevent risk, but if you eliminate the risk itself then you don't have to pay for prevention.

This is cool of them. I hope they find lots and lots of community. I hope the people who need to find this, find this.

But. I also fear what this means for people like me who thank you very much would like to stay home and online, who *don't* want to be in the public square, who *don't* feel better and healthier and happier when we force ourselves to be around other people. I mean, to the extent that Social Media is already ruined and dead... there are at least some rafts to cling to, Discord servers and Tumblrs and the like. And in all of those spaces, voices ring out encouraging users to go touch grass and log off. The more successful their call-to-action, the fewer people who remain to fraternize with people like me.

I should probably actively work on "learning to be lonely" instead of waiting for it to sneak up on me.

ACCIDENTALLY LEFT MY MACERATED APPLE SYRUP ON THE STOVE AND IT CARAMELIZED I GUESS?

it was super thick and dark and golden and bubbly so i took it off the heat. happy accident.

tastes delicious so good. idk what to do with it though

Put on ice cream?

I like to boil down apple cider into a tart-but-sweet syrup and top vanilla bean ice cream with it.

Of all the conspiracy theories, this one wouldn’t even make me say “Wait, what? Really?” if i learned it were true - it sounded at least minimally plausible 20 years ago when i first encountered it and american leader-class people are some sketchy motherfuckers. I will always be at least a little suspicious of our own potential involvement in it.
