read a short danmei called 'i can't shake off the vow breaking immortal', and now im imagining a jiuyuan AU where shen yuan transmigrates as a dream demon but is stuck in the dream realm as a spirit/ghost. to get out of this, shen yuan is tasked by the system to reform shen qingqiu through his dreams and make PIDW have a happier ending. once the mission is completed, shen yuan will have his own physical body and can roam around PIDW freely.
at first, shen qingqiu tries to kill shen yuan bc dream demon and all. but slowly jiuyuan grow closer (probably through shen yuan warning shen qingqiu about his future and/or qiu haitang & huan hua palace master? idk) shen yuan also creates nice dreams to make sure shen qingqiu can sleep peacefully at night once he sees how nightmarish his mind is. they even go on a lil date together in the dream realm and shen qingqiu finds himself wanting to sleep more to visit his little dream demon.
until one day, the system tells shen yuan his mission is done. so the next night shen yuan informs shen qingqiu that this is the last time he'll visit him. but bc shen yuan feels bad that shen qingqiu might go back to having nightmares, he assigns another dream demon to help him. and then shen yuan fucks off from the plot to live peacefully in the demon realm.
that peace is quickly disrupted when an angry shen qingqiu shows up in the demon realm to track down his sleep paralysis demon (boyfriend)

sqq: i don't know who sy thinks he is, trying to bank on his pretty face whilst acting all small and humble. little does he know, i see through all of his schemes. his flattery means nothing to me.

Shen Yuan goes to the market and finds a small meimei who accidentally got lost from their guardian and ended up clinging to him as Shen Yuan looks similar to her baba. She is crying and snotty everywhere so Shen Yuan goes around buying her candy and sitting her down where there is staff who can help. The employees send a message to each other about a small girl named Ning Yingying who was lost in the crowd from her parent.
Shen Yuan stays there for a bit till hearing footsteps rapidly approaching along with an awfully pretty guy with his hair slightly disheveled who seems to be her baba. Shen Yuan exhales relieved as he didn't know what he would do if Ning Yingying started crying for the fifth time.
That was until the man started yelling at him???? Why was he being called shameless?? He is being reprimanded and he doesn't even know what he did wrong! He hasn't ever met this man in his till today, second number one and counting!!
The security manages to calm down the man, Shen Jiu (they have similar last names, what!), and explain the situation. Apparently the guy thought for whatever reason that Shen Yuan was trying to take advantage of the kid and it was him who somehow got her lost. "I see." Is all he says and he doesn't look remorseful or sorry at all! What an asshole! ... Shen Yuan will cut him some slack since the guy did just lose his daughter but he could be a bit grateful and not glare at him like he is scum.
Shen Jiu tries to take Yingying but she wasn't budging, clinging to Shen Yuan and saying she wanted for "this big brother" to "come with them home" or something like that. Shen Yuan honestly started to disassociate after the first two minutes due to how unreal and bizarre this situation was.
In the end they ended up exchanging numbers and both had reluctantly agreed to met up and hangout. This was mostly Yingying wanting to hangout with the cool big brother and her baba tagging aling because he doesn't trust him but details. All to which Yingying had dubbed herself the 'ultimate wingman' and kept leaving them alone in weird places like closets for whatever reason (I really don't think this is how you play tag and I'm sure I'm not misremembering!).

I feel like Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan are two of the most interesting characters to write about in SVSSS. They're brothers, they're a child and a parent, they're married, they're a teacher and student, they're obsessed with each other, they hate each other, they want the other to be well, no one else can possibly understand them better than the other.

currently in school so sorry if it doesnt make any sense but I had this au in mind for a bit..
One night, when the Qiu Manor falls into silence, Shen Jiu discovers something. It glints in the moonlight with its sleek curve outlined by the sliver of moonlight that seeps into the room. Attached to its hilt is single jade bead tied to a red string, emitting a soft light that illuminates the characters engraved on it.
It is the first time Shen Jiu has noticed it, but his memories tell him it must be the first time it's ever been in this room.Β When he reaches out, the blade is cold. It's not like the Luo River whose frost bites at skin, leaving ugly red blotches that itch; instead, it's nice.Β
The oddest thing about the knife, however, is that the boy who stares back at him in the reflection of the blade is not him. He may have the same sickly, gaunt face, but the hair is too short--much shorter than Shen Jiu ever remembers having--and the green glint in his eyes is almost unnatural.Β
(But, despite the weirdness of it all, Shen Jiu tucks the knife close during the night, and hides it in the morning.)Β
Many weeks later, he drives the blade into the cruel heart of Qiu Jianluo. Shen Jiu laughs at the man's writhing form, and laughs harder when Qiu Jianluo chokes out a pitiful "both of you! Stop laughing at me!"Β
It was another odd occurrence, but Shen Jiu was too out of his mind to completely process whatever occurred. It is only when he's far from Qiu Manor that he remembers that moment and how it had only been the wicked Qiu, him, and his knife.
