📋 What was your main goal for the story and/or writing experience? Do you think that you achieved it?
I knew I wanted to explore the postcanon prospects of where the film leaves Aaron, since the film and novel both take it for granted that a NGRI verdict is basically a slap on the wrist and of course in reality it's far from it. (Not that this film is a flawlessly realistic document otherwise, but there's so many little elements like these that are so crunchy to me.) He's still stuck performing and faking, trying to meet some external authority figure's standard of approval. I always want to write nice postcanon fic where Aaron really is in and out of there in a month (so he can go and bedevil Vail some more) but this is the stuff I write instead, oop. I do think I achieved what I set out to do, and I had a good time filling in too what Marty's got going on after that killer ending and what might incite him to reconnect with Aaron even after he's been burned by him.
I also wanted to write some horny smoking. Mission accomplished!

The Book of Kells has lots of writing, It's Insular and majuscule. They say that three scribes penned the letters, I think those scribes were really cool.

I had a dream last night that the Decemberists guy put out a new song that was him announcing the band was breaking up, but the song was also his like detailing his future career path, and it was an excruciatingly granular 13.5 minutes of him explaining to us in detail that he was going to become a world renowned marionette maker and like the steps he was going to take to complete this (step 1 was learn to spin flax to make his own cord, step 2 was learn whittling to create his own puppets, step 3 to make his own paints, etc etc. He was going for that vertical slice sort of thing) All the while someone was shouting in the background I DON'T WANNA BREAK UP and WHO'S GOING TO GET MY ACCORDION because apparently there was a custody battle happening for that?? But as it turned out the song was too much of a banger and people wouldn't let them quit and also he had like horrible arthritis in his hands that was preventing him from making the shit so they announced within the week that the band was actually back together and The Marionette Maker's Heart's Desire was like their new #1 hit
