I barely remembered Millie Winston. Never even learned her real name. She was in and out of Tulsa in two weeks, and we didn't ever see her again. She left without even leaving a note. -Ponyboy Curtis

“"Who's that?"

"Wouldn't mess 'round if I were you, Curly. She might go on an' stab you in your sleep. Or her brother'll beat your sorry ass. Damn good lookin' broad, though."

"Who's her brother?"

Before the Brumly Boy could answer, the blonde girl looked up with her cold, dark blue eyes. She was a spitting image of her brother, down to her mannerisms. For not seeing him in years, they were uncannily similar. She gave the boys a lazy grin and Curly barely glanced at the hoodlum he'd been talking to and sauntered over to her.

"Hey, doll. I'm Curly, you?" He asked while his eyes trailed her figure without a hint of subtly.

"Millie Winston."

"This is Johnny," Dally said dismissively with a slight nod at the tanned, skittish looking boy, his big black eyes darting up.

The girl's characteristically cold blue eyes sparkled in the light and she felt an unfamiliar flutter in her chest. Pink tinged her cheeks and Millie could blame it on the cold wind, but really, everyone but Johnny could tell that wasn't the case.

"Stay the hell away from Johnny, you ain't good enough for him, Millie, and you know it. Shit, you should've stayed in the city. You're supposed to be a damn kid, not whatever the hell this is." Dallas' eyes were cold and he glared down at his sister who scoffed defiantly.

"Yeah? Rich coming from you. Damn model citizen, aren't you?"

"Please," he said in a hard voice, but his eyes were pleading with her. "Just leave the poor kid be. He's been beat half to death, he doesn't need to be caught up in your bullshit, too."

Millie paused, hurt flashing in her eyes, but she covered it up with a stony scowl.

"Fine."

And that night, she disappeared into the wind, only an empty pack of Malbaro cigarettes sitting on the kitchen table of the Curtis house to remember her by, and a note hidden in a dark eyed boy's jean pocket.”

Nickname/s: Francie, Franny, Rainy

Age: Sixteen

Birthday: February 28th

Height: 5’4

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Bisexual, no pref

Class: Greaser

Faceclaim: nobody so far, dm if u have ideas!

Relationship status: single, but crushing on a certain someone… ;)

Personality: extremely temperamental and sassy, the kind of girl who doesn’t take bullshit from anybody — always ripping on people — cough cough, Steve — and causing unnecessary trouble. Confident, cocky, and careless on the surface, similar to Dallas. But when all those layers are stripped off, when it’s her in her most vulnerable state, she’s nothing but a shy, scared little kid who was forced to take on a parental role too early. Doesn’t stop her from being reckless and loud, though. Never did, never will.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Franny’s a mystery, if I’m bein’ honest. Mean and loud and obnoxious one moment, quiet and contemplative the next. Can’t blame her. Life in Tulsa’s shit — most of the time, at least. It’s easy to disassociate yourself when things get to be too much.
She’s real pretty, considering she’s both grease and a girl. With a face that looks like it’s straight out of a Victorian painting and hair that could combat Ronnie Spector herself, she’s got it all. Most girls like her wear makeup that makes ‘em look like raccoons and act all mean. But Franny? She can’t afford that stuff, not with her siblings under wing. That’s why she has Two-Bit steal stuff for her. Her face is covered in freckles and little beauty marks, all across her nose and cheeks and arms that reminds me of splattered paint. Johnny says her grandmother called ‘em “angel kisses,” so she does too. She also always smells like coffee and leather for no explainable reason, considering the amount of cigarettes she smokes.
She never fails to out dress most of us. Stolen and handmade band shirts, roughed up jeans, leather jackets, denim jackets with patches all over ‘em, she’s got it all. The jewelry she wears, too, is pretty sick. All those silver rings and necklaces remind me of Dally… come to think of it, she probably stole some from him. I wouldn’t be surprised, she’s kind of a klepto.
Johnny is definitely her favorite, we all know it. They’re always together, laughing and smiling and causing trouble. Two-Bit tags along often, too, as well as Dally, which results in stealing and more trouble. However, the one moral she stands by to death is that she’ll never do something that would send her to prison. She can’t afford to, not withe her siblings in her custody. If she’s not around, they’ll have to fend for themselves. They’re her whole world.

——————————————————————————————————————————————

“Load up on guns,

and bring your friends,

it's fun to lose and to pretend.

She's over-bored and self assured,

oh no, I know a dirty word.”

———————————————————————

Franny doesn’t take shit from anybody! She’s lived more lives than most, which in itself means more than one thing. Her whole being is messed up from what she’s been through, not unlike the other guys. She talks mean and fights dirty, but there’s still something… off about her. Like when nobody’s lookin’, she’ll get all quiet and have this weird look in her eye. And she probably doesn’t realize we see her flinchin.”

— Ponyboy Curtis, 1964

———————————————————————

“Oh, Franny? The girl’s a fuckin’ riot! She ain’t afraid to yell, steal, be a nuisance! Nice as hell, man, a breath of fresh air. At first, I thought she was some stupid broad, but now? I’m tellin’ ya, man, she’s got somethin’ to her. She ain’t fake or bitchy or rude like all the other broads I’ve met in my time. A real nice chick, man. Got a nice ass, too.”

— Dallas “Dally” Winston, 1964

———————————————————————

“What’s Rainy like? Oh, man, I mean… she’s somethin’ else. She acts all tough and mean and wild with Dally and Two, and I know she has fun, but they don’t truly know her. They don’t see the way she cares about her baby brother and sister. They’ll never see it, and I think she’s okay with that. She always talks about gettin’ out of here, goin’ to college and makin’ a name for herself other than “low-life greaser.” They don’t know how she grew up, how she lives now. But she’s okay with it.”

— Johnny Cade, 1964

“ONE DAY…”

I AM GONNA GROW WINGS.”

BACKGROUND:

Francis, or “Franny” as her closest friends call her, grew up in Jersey. She’d lived with her mom and dad and younger siblings, but unfortunately, she didn’t have it easy. Abuse and neglect took place, leaving nasty scars that end up lasting her whole life. But when her painters finally got divorced, her mother didn’t hesitate to pack up and run off to Tulsa with her and her younger siblings. Despite how it should have been a fresh start, it was the opposite. Her mother’s drinking and lack of an emotional and physical presence made things more than difficult. For the first few months, it was hell — until Buck Merril found Franny on the street and took her in. He then gave her a job posing as a man at the local drag racing track under the alias of “Frank Turner.”

This is where Johnny Cade, the quiet and calculating greaser everyone seems to know, comes into play. Him, being a fan of drag racing, had idolized Francis, believing her to be a man — as everyone else had. One fateful night, he decided to sneak to the back of the track. He had been anticipating a nice interaction with his idol, only to find a girl his age leaning on a car, laughing at Buck’s jokes and smoking a cigarette. In a moment of disbelief, he couldn’t help gasping, drawing her and Buck’s attention to him. For a moment, she fears for her whole life, thinking he’d tell everyone she’s a woman and ruining her main source of income. That is, until Johnny blurts out in a shaky voice “I won’t tell! Honest!” From then on, they were best friends.

Eventually, she got to meet the gang — Darry, Ponyboy, Soda, Dallas, Two-Bit and Steve. She was adopted into their group easily, in spite of her being female. Dally, especially, took a (mainly perverted) liking to her. She, Johnny and Dallas became a little trio, with Two-Bit occasionally tagging along. However, she and Johnny were always the closest, to the point where his first thought after being kicked out was to go to Francis. She became his safe haven, and she was happy to provide him with such comfort. At the Curtis house, with Darry, Soda and Pony, she was always happy to help with cooking or cleaning. Sure, she has her own siblings, but a couple more couldn’t hurt, right?

EXTRAS:

Likes: Snoopy/the peanuts Frank Sinatra, The Ronettes (don’t tell anyone), collecting vinyls, LOVESS pepsi, silver jewelry, cigarettes (she has no preference, she’ll take what she can get), diners, making fun of Steve, scented candles

Dislikes: Coke, Batman, uptight Socs, Snoopy haters, people who whine and complain 24/7, Bob Sheldon, music haters, people with no personality, Bob Sheldon, people who make fun of Johnny, Bob Sheldon, musk scented candles, milk, did I mention Bob Sheldon?

Interests: The peanuts, Cinema — specifically Frank Sinatra — music, the punk movement, the lore of Spider-Man, poetry (Pony put her on Robert Frost), books of all kind, George Orwell, women’s suffrage n shit.

Body Type: physically, she’s very strong, but due to being broke, she’s on the skinnier side. If she had three full meals a day, she’d have a bit more curves, similar to the Venus De Milos.

Friends: Johnny Cade, Two-Bit Matthews, Dallas Winston, Buck Merril.

Opinions on Socs: while she doesn’t purposefully pick fights with them, she also isn’t too kind. It mainly comes from a sense of jealousy — they get to have it all, while she and her friends are stuck with nothing. Though, if they’re nice to her, she’ll be nice right back. Bob Sheldon though? If he were to ever show his face to her, it’s on sight.

Mental Health: despite how she acts, all mean and rough, she’s struggling. Constantly keeping her thoughts and troubles to herself and never accepting help has lead to her having a lot of issues. She always puts out her cigarettes on her wrists or thighs, thinking nobody notices. On top of that, she and her siblings have undiagnosed ADHD and certain symptoms of Borderline.

Random: she knows ALL of the peanuts lore, in talking every little detail. Who’s best friends, who’s crushing on who, all of Snoopy’s siblings. Schroeder and Lucy are her favs (aside from snoopy). She is a MASSIVE coke hater, and she will til the day she dies. She also has an unhealthy love for Spider-Man and his lore. She speaks Italian to her siblings so they know it, but otherwise doesn’t, so when she does speak it in front of the gang, it’s always a spectacle.

Milkshakes- Johnny Cade x OC

Johnny Cade x Amelia Burton

Description: After Amelia finds Johnny in the lot after the socs jump him, she can’t stop worrying about him and finally decides to visit him a few days later.

Word Count: 2.2k

It had been a relatively normal day for Amelia. Today was Saturday, which meant no school and no work, so she was allowed to sleep in. Her house was quiet as her father and mother both worked. She had no chores today because Saturday was her relaxing day (as her father called it), but her mother asked her to run to the corner store to grab a few things. So, after getting dressed for the day she decided to just go ahead and get it done.

She’d been walking to the store when she noticed something peculiar. It was a pristine blue mustang parked beside an empty lot. It obviously belonged to a soc, no greaser could ever be able to afford a car as nice as that. That wasn’t the weirdest part though, it was the fact that the car was empty that unsettled her. Well, it wasn’t empty for long because out of nowhere four socs ran out of the lot and piled into the car, laughing like maniacs. Amelia quickly ducked down after noticing Bob Sheldon climb into the driver’s seat. She’d rather die than be targeted by him and Randy Adderson (who she realized was in the passenger seat).

Amelia stayed out of sight until the mustang passed her without any of the socs inside it noticing her. Once they were far enough she stepped back onto the sidewalk and just stared at the retreating car confusedly. What in the world were socs doing on this side of the-

At that exact moment Amelia heard quiet weeping and ragged breathing. Her brows furrowed in both worry and confusion, and she slowly made her way to the entrance of what she thought was an empty lot. It wasn’t empty, however. Someone was lying on the ground in a fetal position, shaking like a leaf in the wind. They had on jeans and converse as well as a jean jacket, and she could see a mass of black hair peeking out over the collar of their jacket.

Worry and fear shot through her as she realized she recognized the person. It was Johnny Cade. He was in the same grade as her, though they never really talked. That didn’t stop her from running over to him worriedly. After crouching down beside him she understood why he was crying. The poor boy had been beaten black, blue and red. There wasn’t a visible spot on his skin that wasn’t bruised or cut. One of the socs must’ve been wearing rings or something. It almost looked like he was on the verge of death, and his eyes being closed wasn’t helping his case in the slightest.

It took all Amelia had not to gasp in shock at the very sight of his injuries. She knew he didn’t need someone to pity him. No, he needed help, and he needed help fast. For a moment she sat there racking her brain trying to figure out what to do. After a moment it finally hit her (pun unintended). Johnny hung out with the Curtis boys, mainly Ponyboy. She knew Ponyboy from a sports event they’d both gone to, though she was in tennis while he was in track. They’d walked home from school together that day, and if she remembered correctly, he didn't live far from where they were.

“Johnny, can you hear me?” She called softly, carefully moving a hand to rest on his shoulder as lightly as it could. The boy flinched in surprise, then nodded weakly.

“Y-Yeah,” he whispered in a hoarse voice.

“Good, that’s good. I’m gonna go get you some help. Do you think you could stay awake for me?” She asked, still in the calm and careful tone she’d used before. Once again the boy nodded. That was the only response she received as  Johnny was getting weaker by the second, so she had to work fast.

“Alright, I’ll be right back.” With that she was up and running out of the lot, heading directly to the Curtis house. After a few minutes the yellow house with a chain link fence in front of it came into view. Because she was going so fast she didn’t have time to slow down and instead jumped the fence before finally reaching the front door. Once there she banged like a madman until the front door opened, revealing Ponyboy.

“Amelia?” He questioned confusedly, opening the screen door that separated them. The girl practically fell into him and he pulled her inside. She was relieved to see the rest of the Curtis gang there, all of them staring at her in shock and confusion.

“What’s wrong?” One of them asked. If she remembered correctly, it was Ponyboy’s oldest brother, Darry.

“J-Johnny- They.. The-There was-” she panted out, thoughts running just as fast as she was before.

“Okay, okay, just calm down,” Darry said calmly, resting his hands on her shoulders and crouching a bit to look at her. “Take a deep breath.” Though she was still panicking a bit, she nodded and did as he said, taking several shaky deep breaths until her heartbeat was at a normal pace and she was no longer panting. Once he was satisfied with her progress the oldest Curtis nodded in approval.

“Good. Now, tell us what happened.”

“Johnny got jumped by socs.” Just those five words alone sent a shockwave over the entire gang. Immediately everyone was up and shouting over each other, but she could just barely hear someone yell out over the rest.

“Where is he?”

“Follow me!” She was out the door almost as soon as the words left her lips, the gang following after her. On the way there she explained what she saw, finishing her story just as they finally reached the lot.

Amelia opted to stay back while the Curtis gang rushed over to the boy. She just didn’t feel like it was her place to be with the group. After a moment of assessing Johnny’s injuries Darry instructed the others to bring him to the Curtis house. His words made the girl sigh in relief because that likely meant nothing was broken, fractured, or anything else in that general category. Dally was the one to pick him up with Two-Bit’s help, and together they carried Johnny out of the lot. Amelia quickly stepped aside as the rest of the gang filed out. Darry was the last one out, and he paused once he reached the girl.

“Thanks for helping him and getting us,” he muttered, earning a nod along with a weak smile from the girl.

“Will he be okay?” She asked nervously.

“Don’t worry about Johnny,” Soda answered this time, having stopped when he heard Darry. “He’s tuff, he’ll pull through this just like he has everything else.” The older boy’s response comforted her, and she nodded at him.

Sodapop and Ponyboy ended up walking her home as Darry didn’t feel comfortable with her walking alone. He even had them go to the corner store with her (not that they minded, they felt the same way as their brother). She thanked them a hundred times once they reached her house, but the boys just laughed and told her it was no problem before heading back home.

She spent the rest of the day worrying about Johnny. She just couldn’t help it, those socs had roughed him up good and it worried her. Even as she laid in bed that night she couldn’t get the image of him beaten nearly to death out of her head. She almost felt guilty, though she knew that even if she was there a few minutes earlier it wouldn’t have helped much. She fell asleep that night still thinking of Johnny.

Amelia had work the next day, so she couldn’t go see him. By now word had gotten around that Johnny had been jumped by socs and she had been the one to find her, which made her the topic of most of the waitstaff’s conversation. She kept things under wraps as best as she could, knowing Johnny wouldn’t like being talked about so soon after something so traumatic, but that didn’t stop them from asking. She’d never been so relieved for her shift to end.

When Amelia didn’t see Johnny at school that Monday she became worried all over again. Two-Bit and Ponyboy were there, but he was nowhere to be seen. At some point that morning she managed to catch the latter in the hallway and asked about the Cade boy. It took all she had not to visibly sigh in relief when he said that Johnny was just getting a little more rest before he came back to school.

Even with the reassurance she had a hard time focusing that day, especially in third period. Her third class of the day was Spanish, which sophomores shared with seniors. Unfortunately for her, one of the seniors in her class was none other than Bob Sheldon. She couldn’t look at him without thinking of what happened. And word about her being the one to find Johnny, which meant that Bob definitely knew by now. Would something happen to her? Oh god, would he get her next to make sure she stayed quiet? The thought scared her.

She hadn’t even realized that she’d begun shaking until her teacher rested a hand on her shoulder, which nearly made her scream. After taking one look at the girl, her teacher, Mrs. Melara decided that she was sick and sent her to the nurse’s office. The nurse only had to look at the girl to agree and send her home. Since both of her parents were once again working she had to walk home. She made her walk quick, trying not to be out long (though she knew that most socs were still in school) but she stopped when she passed by the diner she worked at as an idea struck her. Without a second though she went inside and went up to the hostess.

Roughly ten minutes later Amelia walked out with a bag of fries and two milkshakes in her hands, heading to the Curtis house. She made it there in no time and was knocking on the door. After hearing a grumbled response she took that as her cue to enter, so she did. The living room was empty this time around. Well, except for Johnny, who laid on the couch.

He looked much better than when she last saw him. His cuts had been cleaned and bandaged, the largest one being on his cheek as he’d received a large scratch to it, and some of the bruises she’d previously seen were already beginning to fade. He was no longer wearing his normal clothes but instead pajamas that looked just a little too big for him (maybe given to him by one of the Curtis boys?). A small smile settled on Amelia’s face at the very sight of him looking ten times better than before. Their eyes met just a moment later, and she watched his eyebrows shoot up in surprise.

“Amelia?”

“That’s me,” she joked as she stepped inside, closing the door behind her. “How are you feeling?”

“Fine,” he answered softly. It was an obvious lie, but Amelia thought better than to push him. She could tell he appreciated it by the smile on his face. His eyes then trailed down to the contents of her hands, and his brows furrowed in confusion.

“What’s all that?” Amelia followed his gaze then promptly remembered why she’d stopped by in the first place. She moved to sit on the floor beside him.

“Milkshakes always make me feel better and I get them free at the diner,” she explained with a small smile, holding out the cup for him. “I didn’t know which flavor you like but chocolate seemed like the safe choice.” When she looked at the boy she realized he was still staring at her confusedly.

“You…brought me food?” Amelia’s smile slowly faded as insecurities began swarming in her head.

“Is…Is that weird? Oh my god that’s weird, isn’t it? Oh I’m so stupid, Of course it is. We barely even know each other so of course you’re gonna think I’m-”

“Amelia,” Johnny cut her off with a quiet laugh. The girl’s heart fluttered at the sound and looked at him shyly. He now sported a small smile on his face, which made her blush.

“I don’t think it’s weird,” he continued softly. “I was just surprised s’all. I thought you getting the gang for me would be the last of it.”

“Oh,” Amelia muttered somewhat embarrassedly. “Well, I just couldn’t stop worrying about you. I know Darry and Sodapop said that you’d be okay, but I guess I just needed to make sure of it. Besides, who could turn down a free shake and fries?” She held up the bag of food to emphasize her point, earning another soft laugh from the boy.

“Fair enough.” He sat up a bit while she opened the bag and handed him one of the boxes of fries before grabbing her own. They sat there for a few minutes in silence as they ate.

“Hey, Amelia?” The boy said after a moment, which caused her to look at him.

“Hmm?” Johnny smiled at her as he lifted the cup to his face.

“Chocolate’s my favorite.”
